WWE shows in India are currently available on Sony Sports Network
As the content and weekly programs of WWE moved to Netflix in multiple countries including the United States where Monday Night Raw moved to the streaming giant, many pro wrestling fans in India were waiting for the same in their country.
Along with the weekly programs and PLEs, fans were also waiting for the specially curated programs and vault episodes which are not available on Sony Sports Network. The transition to Netflix also meant the end of the WWE Network and its content shifted to the streaming giant, which also made it a lucrative choice for fans.
Sony Pictures Network India (SPNI) is currently the exclusive broadcaster for regular programming, PLEs, and events. However, the deal which was made in 2020 where SPNI renewed the WWE media rights for an estimated $180-210 million over five years is set to expire in March 2025.
According to an earlier report from the Economic Times, The Stamford-based promotion is preparing to transfer its media rights in India from SPNI to Netflix in March when the promotion deal with SPNI expires. The report stated that Sony Pictures Network India wanted to keep WWE’s TV rights due to poor digital performance, despite the global Netflix deal.
Netflix India to become the new home for pro wrestling fans starting in April
The streaming giant has now announced via all their social media platforms that WWE programs are soon coming to their platform in India. “Is this the smelllllll of all the drama that’s cooking 🥊❤️ WWE is coming soon, live on Netflix.” The caption read.
Although the transition won’t happen immediately, fans can still enjoy content on SPNI for now. While Netflix hasn’t specified an exact date in its promo, the program details on Netflix India indicate that WWE programming will move to the streaming platform on April 1, 2025, once the deal with SPNI expires.
The transition will mark the end of a historic partnership between SPNI and the Stamford-based promotion while opening the door for exciting possibilities in the future.
Ahead of the transition, WWE content and programs have slowly started appearing on Netflix India, with labels indicating they will be available from April 1. The trailers are now available on the platform, with everything expected to follow soon.0
