Sony Sports Network is the current home for WWE in India

A new era is dawning for WWE in one of its major markets, India as following in the footsteps the Stamford-based promotion will transition its shows and programs exclusively on Netflix in India. This will mark an end to a long-term broadcasting partnership with Sony Pictures Network India (SPNI).

SPNI has been the exclusive broadcaster for regular programming, PLEs, and events since 2002. However, the deal which was renewed in 2020, where SPNI renewed the WWE media rights for an estimated $180-210 million over five years, will expire at the end of this month.

The promotion is now gearing up for the transition as content and programs have slowly started appearing on Netflix India, with labels indicating they will be available from April 1. Ahead of the transition, Netflix India shared a video announcing the official transition featuring WWE CCO Triple H who hyped the beginning of the Netflix era.

“Starting on April 1st, WWE has a brand new home in India, this means RAW, SmackDown, NXT every Premium Live Event from the Royal Rumble to SummerSlam and all of it leads to the grandest stage of all, WrestleMania!

So, India! I’ll ask you one more time, are you ready? becasuse this is the beginning of the Netflix era!” Triple H said.

Along with weekly content and PLEs, Indian fans will likely get specially curated content, vault videos and more, similar to what is offered on Netflix internationally. The transition will also mean a more engaging experience for fans, something which Netflix is known for.

Tuesday Night NXT will be the first show to air in India on April 02

While April 1 will mark the transition to Netflix, the first weekly show from the Stamford-based promotion is Tuesday Night NXT, which also means the last to air on SPNI will be the 03/31 episode of Monday Night Raw which is set to air from the O2 Arena in London. Additionally it is also the last show in the Road to WrestleMania 41 Europe tour.

The 04/01 episode of Tuesday Night NXT will emanate live from the WWE Performance Centre in Orlando, Florida and fans in India can watch the show on April 02 from 05:30 AM IST on Netflix. The show has already been listed on the streaming platform, with labels indicating it will air live on April 2.

Additionally, the second show from the WWE to air on Netflix India will be the April 04 show of SmackDown followed by the April 07 of Monday Night Raw, while the 41st edition of the WrestleMania PLE will be the first Premium Live Event to stream live on Netflix following the transition.
