The Chilean Sensation is making her way to WWE.

Ana Stephanie Vaquer González, also known professionally as Stephanie Vaquer, is a name with a strong resonance in the wrestling industry. Vaquer was born in Chile on March 29, 1993, and has risen through the ranks of professional wrestling to become a well-known figure in a variety of brands throughout the world. She joined WWE in July 2024, beginning a new chapter in her storied career.

Vaquer’s professional wrestling career began in her home nation of Chile. She began training with Paul Slandering and made her ring debut in February 2009. However, it wasn’t until August 2010 that her documented matches received attention.

Wrestling under the ring moniker Dark Angel, she competed in a variety of local tournaments, improving her talents and building a reputation. On December 22, 2013, she fought Heroína in the Arena Coliseo Coacalco in Mexico, marking her first big encounter outside of Chile. Vaquer honed her skills by training with top wrestlers in Mexico, including Ricky Marvin, Último Guerrero, Gran Apache, and Villano IV.

Debut in Japan and finding success in Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL)

Vaquer made her Japanese wrestling debut in 2018 with World Wonder Ring Stardom, a famous promotion for women. She played in five bouts over three weeks in July and August, including a title match, demonstrating her versatility and talent. The same year, she took part in a WWE tryout in Chile, reflecting her growing prominence in the wrestling industry.

Vaquer’s career took a big step forward when she started wrestling for Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) in August 2019. She made history as CMLL’s first female South American wrestler. Initially a seasonal guest, Vaquer advanced to a full-time performer, making significant progress in the promotion.

Her collaboration with Zeuxis proved to be game-changing. On February 10, 2023, they defeated Marcela and Princesa Sugehit, winning the inaugural Occident Women’s Tag Team Championship on March 21. The duo’s success continued when they won the CMLL World Women’s Tag Team Championship on September 16, 2023, during the CMLL 90th anniversary show.

Vaquer’s abilities were recognized when she won the vacant CMLL World Women’s Championship on September 29, 2023, at Noche de Campeones. With her victory, she became the first luchador in CMLL history to hold both titles simultaneously. However, her contract with CMLL expired in July 2024, resulting in the loss of both crowns.

Representing CMLL at New Japan Pro Wrestling

Vaquer’s achievement was not confined to Mexico. In 2023, she competed for CMLL in the New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s (NJPW) Resurgence tournament, winning the inaugural Strong Women’s Championship. Despite losing to Mercedes Moné in the semi-finals, her performances received widespread appreciation. She also challenged Mayu Iwatani for the IWGP Women’s Championship but was defeated.

Vaquer’s perseverance paid off when she won the Strong Women’s Championship on March 10, 2024, during the Cinderella Tournament presented by Stardom. She successfully defended her championship against difficult opponents including AZM and Alex Windsor. Her reign lasted 112 days and ended on June 30 at Forbidden Door, when she was defeated by Mercedes Moné via submission.

Working in AEW and other promotions

In 2024, Vaquer broadened her horizons by fighting in Revolution Pro Wrestling. She had a stunning debut on May 17, defeating Kanji before successfully defending her Strong Women’s Championship against Rhio. Her time with All Elite Wrestling (AEW) was similarly memorable.

On May 29, 2024, she faced AEW TBS Champion Mercedes Moné, and on June 29, she defeated Lady Frost in her professional debut. However, she lost the Strong Women’s title against Moné in a winner-take-all bout at Forbidden Door.

WWE – Present

On July 10, 2024, Shawn Michaels, WWE’s Senior Vice President of Talent Development Creative, revealed Vaquer’s official signing. This move was widely expected and marked a watershed moment in her career.

Stephanie Vaquer’s personal life

Vaquer’s personal life has also been fraught with troubles. She has dual Chilean and Mexican citizenship and considers Mexican luchador Reina Dorada her closest friend. In March 2023, Vaquer filed a criminal complaint against AAA World Trios Champion El Cuatrero for domestic assault, which resulted in his detention and attempted femicide charges.
