The Undertaker and Sting are two of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time, who share a lot of similarities. Both have a great legacy in the pro-wrestling industry, lasting for over three decades. Sting had a great tenure in WCW and TNA, where Taker had a monumental tenure in WWE.

There was always been a rumour and talks around the wrestling industry about a potential match between them. However, it didn’t happen although they were on the same promotion during 2015 and 2016. “The Phenom” Undertaker has now revealed the reason behind the unhappened match with Sting.

Why did The Undertaker vs Sting never happen?

The Undertaker on his Six Feet Under Podcast, discussed the legendary dream match with Sting and why it didn’t happen. The Phenom said that it was Vince McMahon, who didn’t want the match for whatever reason. He recalled that a number of fans were sending him posters of The Undertaker vs Sting. But, Taker said that it didn’t work out. Taker continued stating that if it had been held, it would have not fulfilled expectations.

The Undertaker said,

“It just didn’t work out. He had a short run in WWE and Vince didn’t want it. For whatever reason, I don’t know what it was. He didn’t feel it. Everybody else was clamoring for this match for quite a few years.”

“A year or two into that character change, I mean, people were already sending me artwork with the billboard or the poster. It just never worked out. The match would have been good, but I don’t think it would have lived up to the expectations that people have for it.”

“People always think about things in a certain sense. I think they thought in their mind of Undertaker, 2007 or 2008 versus Sting. It was later on than that. I can say I was way on the backside of what I was going to do when he got there.”

On the previous edition of his podcast just days after Sting’s retirement, Taker said that he would have considered returning from retirement if Sting had not retired. However, later he asked not to expect that.

Taker said,

“Well, I mean, if Sting hadn’t retired, maybe. He ruined the whole thing. I got new knees and he went and had to go and retire. Oh my gosh, we’re going to get so much heat for that. It’s still tough for me. I’m still coming to grips with it. I may or may not have said to my wife recently that I was going to make a comeback… Don’t expect it.”
