‘The American Nightmare’ has found himself in legal troubles
The Undisputed WWE Champion, Cody Rhodes currently looks invincible following his win at the 2024 Crown Jewel PLE. Rhodes defeated World Heavyweight Champion Gunhter in a ‘Champion vs Champion’ match to become the inaugural Crown Jewel Champion.
The Undisputed Champion has become one of the biggest stars since his return to the promotion in 2022. Despite his in-ring success, it looks like The American Nightmare is embroiled in legal troubles with major financial implications that are in six figures.
Rhodes was scheduled to appear on the last week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown but he was only visible during the programming when his friend Randy Orton was being taken to the hospital following a brutal attack by Kevin Owens.
The Undisputed Champion has now been sued by The frontman of Boston’s hardcore punk band, American Nightmare. The band consists of five members namely, Wesley Eisold, Joshua Holden, Brian Masek, Alex Garcia-Rivera, and Jim Carroll.
Wesley Eisold has filed a lawsuit against Cody Rhodes
Wesley Eisold who as mentioned is the frontman of the band American Nightmare, Eisold has filed a lawsuit against the Undisputed Champion. The lawsuit alleges trademark infringement and breach of contract.
Wesley has stated that Cody has been using the term ‘American Nightmare’ without proper authorization. This has caused confusion among their fans and diluted the brand associated with his band.
“Eisold’s fans frequently buy the Runnels clothes by accident, Runnels’ fans regularly buy the Eisold clothes by mistake, and fans of both inadvertently make and purchase apparel that mix references to both the band and to Runnels,”
As per the lawsuit, Rhodes entered into a mutual agreement with Eisold concerning the use of the term. The lawsuit alleges that Rhodes violated the agreed terms by releasing merchandise featuring the moniker without explicit branding or licensing.
The Undisputed Champion faces potential financial fallout as the lawsuit pursues $900,000 in compensation. As of now, Rhodes has not yet publicly responded to these allegations, a response to the lawsuit is due from him by November 15th.
The lawsuit has come at a time when Rhodes is currently at the top of his game and enjoying success after defeating Roman Reigns for the title at WrestleMania 40. This legal dispute might hinder his ability to maintain his position at the top of the mountain in WWE.
