Gunther laid out Pat McAfee with an attack on WWE RAW after WrestleMania

WWE is coming off another successful edition of WrestleMania that took place at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. The 41st edition of the show was a spectacular two-night extravaganza. However, things did not end too well for one man. That was none other than RAW superstar Gunther.

The Ring General walked into WrestleMania 41 as the World Heavyweight Champion. He was scheduled to defend his title against the 2025 WWE Royal Rumble and his formidable rival, Main Event Jey Uso.

Gunther and Jey Uso competed in a hard-fought battle; however, in the end, Uso made the Ring General tap out to the sleeper hold in mere seconds to dethrone him for the championship.

Gunther was visibly frustrated on the RAW after WrestleMania and committed some heinous actions against Michael Cole and Pat McAfee. This might have hinted at a potential showdown at WWE‘s next PLE, Backlash, which is scheduled to take place on May 4, 2025, at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis, Missouri.

Is Gunther vs Pat McAfee a possibility for WWE Backlash 2025?

On the RAW after WrestleMania 41, Gunther came down to the ring and was evidently angry and embarrassed. He charged right at Michael Cole for some comments that he made as he called the action for his match between Jey Uso. This led to Gunther even putting his hands on Cole and almost locking him in the sleeper hold.

However, Cole’s broadcast colleague, Pat McAfee, came to his defense and got into an altercation with the former World Heavyweight Champion. As he turned around, Gunther trapped McAfee in the sleeper hold and did not release the hold for a long time despite the intervention of the WWE officials.

Pat McAfee was then helped to the back and given medical attention. He even addressed the issue to TKO Board member, The Rock, the following day. However, witnessing the events that went down, there is a chance that it can lead to a match at WWE’s next PLE, Backlash.

The former NFL punter has competed in a few WWE matches against the likes of Adam Cole and Austin Theory. McAfee has proven that his NFL athletic ability was good enough to translate into in-ring acumen. Moreover, revenge might definitely be on his mind, even if it is against a dominant superstar like Gunther.

This could be fueled more as Gunther might continue to torment Michael Cole in the weeks leading up to WWE Backlash. Tired of seeing his antics, Pat McAfee could return after a few weeks to brawl with him and save Cole once again to set up a potential match against the Austrian star at WWE Backlash.
