ESPN is now the new home for WWE PLEs

WWE’s streaming future is taking another major turn. According to a new report, the Clash in Paris on August 31, 2025, will be the final premium live event (PLE) to stream on Peacock.

ESPN takes over the rights beginning in September. The shift comes earlier than expected, with WWE, Peacock, and ESPN all agreeing to accelerate the transition.

ESPN accelerates WWE PLE takeover

Originally, ESPN’s rights deal for WWE’s PLEs was set to begin in 2026. However, insiders revealed that the company has decided to move up the takeover date by several months to coincide with the launch of its highly anticipated direct-to-consumer streaming app on September 20.

The first event under the new deal will be Wrestlepalooza from Indianapolis’ Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

“That is certainly the story that’s going around,” Dave Meltzer reported on Wrestling Observer Radio. “They wanted to move from December 13th to December 27th … it’s a major full-court press.”

The new ESPN app, which costs $29.99 a month, aims to be a central hub for sports content. A bundle with Fox’s new streaming platform will also be available for $39.99.

Peacock deal winds down with John Cena’s farewell

Peacock didn’t lose WWE rights in a buyout. Instead, sources told The Hollywood Reporter that WWE and NBCUniversal negotiated an early conclusion, citing that WWE fulfilled its contracted PLE tally by splitting WrestleMania and SummerSlam into two-night events.

Peacock will continue to feature selected WWE programming, including four primetime Saturday Night’s Main Event specials per year. Two are planned for late 2025, with the December 13 edition confirmed to host John Cena’s retirement match. The WWE Network archives and NXT’s PLEs will remain on Peacock until 2026, while SmackDown’s library will continue with a 30-day delay.

WWE Clash in Paris on August 31, streaming at 2 p.m. ET/11 a.m. PT, now serves as the curtain call for WWE’s Peacock run before events like Crown Jewel (Oct. 11) and Survivor Series (Nov. 29) debut on ESPN.

When does WWE’s partnership with ESPN officially begin?

The deal starts September 20, 2025, with Wrestlepalooza streaming live on ESPN’s new app.

Will WWE content still be available on Peacock after August 2025?

Yes. The WWE Network library will remain until the end of 2025, while NXT PLEs stay until March 2026.

Which WWE event will be the last to stream on Peacock?

WWE Clash in Paris on August 31, 2025, will mark the end of Peacock’s run with WWE’s main roster PLEs.
