WWE LFG is one of the newest shows WWE has introduced
Over the last few years, WWE has produced a number of programs and events that provide insight into the wrestling profession. The firm has once again exploited its connection with A&E to develop a new program called ‘WWE LFG’ (Legends & Future Greats), which premiered on the streaming platform on February 16.
LFG is a competition series launched by the corporation that will focus on the industry’s growing talent. It focuses on analyzing in-ring matches as well as the star’s ability outside of the ring, all while refining their skills for WWE TV. Not only does the new talent compete, but they also receive mentorship from some of the industry’s biggest performers, like Triple H, Shawn Michaels, The Undertaker, and others.
WWE also released a few of promotional films for the shows, with CM Punk and Gunther attempting to encourage and coach the young future superstars. With the program being purely a competition series, the young stars will face off against one another for a contract with the Stamford-based firm, as well as intensive instruction from some of the greatest names to ever step foot in the ring.
A total of 16 young men and women are competing in the program, hoping to learn from the finest in the industry and get a contract to work on NXT, which would lay the groundwork for a future career in WWE. The show is a significant addition to the Stamford-based company’s already extensive programming on A&E.
The LFG series, which will feature in-ring battles and a behind-the-scenes look at developing talent fighting for a WWE contract, may sound similar to those who grew up watching shows like ‘Tough Enough’. Paul “Triple H” Levesque, Undertaker, Shawn Michaels, Mickie James, Bubba Ray Dudley, and Booker T serve as mentors/coaches, with guaranteed appearances by CM Punk and Michelle McCool.
WWE’s last competition program took place in 2015, featuring judges Daniel Bryan, Paige, The Miz and Hulk Hogan. According to Bubba Ray Dudley, the series promises to provide the most in-depth look into WWE programming from off-screen to on-screen than any previous show.
The show comes at a unique time for WWE’s “developmental” side, as NXT has moved to network television on the CW, ‘Evolve’ wrestling, which is considered a tier below NXT, has launched on ‘Tubi’, and WWE recently announced the ID program, which allows independent talent to earn a WWE contract and appear on ‘Evolve’ programming.
