WWE is in discussion to bring major changes to NXT’s production side soon!

Ever since WWE got merged into Endeavor and went under TKO Group Holdings in 2023, the company has brought a number of changes. The company has been open to a number of changes, in terms of booking overseas shows, WWE moving to OTT, more product exposure to fans, 8K cameras and more.

Talking about the production, the camera angles are more dramatic with the 8K cameras for the introduction, one shot video angle from one scene to another, from the backstage to the ring and more. At this stage, backstage report has revealed a major change from the production side, by bringing back the WCW gimmick in WWE.

WWE to bring ‘referee-cam’ to NXT

According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select, WWE has been in discussions of bringing the referee cam back soon for the NXT brand.

The idea of using ‘referee cam’ was first introduced by WCW in the early 1990’s, where the referees would wear a helmet attached to a camera during the matches. The cam idea was used to capture the referee viewing angles, however it was called-off due to poor clarity & reception from fans.

However the cameras are upgraded with advanced technologies and a lot of other sports have been using referee cameras including MLB, NFL, EPL and more. The reports suggest that it will soon be introduced to WWE TV on the NXT brand, however who pitched the idea is unknown.

Currently the NXT production team is headed by the Vice President of Line Producing Brian Fadem and Shawn Michaels has been in incharge of NXT Operations.

On the other hand Lee Fitting has been handling the production for WWE’s main roster show since the departure of Kevin Dunn in 2023. Fitting is known for unique angle video shots. He is the one, who brought the continuous shots from one segment to another from the backstage areas and got the praisings from the WWE Universe.

WWE previously tried out ring post cameras, but was taken off due to poor productivity having a number blind side areas inside the ring. Will the referee-eye camera be successful? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
