‘The Best in the World’ CM Punk strikes again

Damian Priest, the World Heavyweight Champion, had something to prove against Seth Rollins who initially brought the championship to glory. El Campeon faced Seth “Freakin” Rollins for the WWE title at Money in the Bank.

Seth Rollins was the first to hold the new World Heavyweight Championship, and he quickly elevated the title to elite status as a fighting champion, defeating Drew McIntyre, Finn Bálor, and Shinsuke Nakamura. At WWE WrestleMania XL, McIntyre finally ended his reign, only to lose the title moments later when Damian Priest cashed in the Money in the Bank contract, pinned McIntyre, and walked off The Grandest Stage of Them All.

When Rollins returned to Raw for the first time since The Show of Shows on June 17, he appeared to be ready to compete in the Money in the Bank Ladder match to reclaim the World Heavyweight Title. Following a tense discussion with Priest, the champion handed Rollins a title shot to prove to The Visionary and everyone else that he is the Superstar who truly deserves the gold.

Then, one week later, Priest and Rollins faced off, raising the stakes of their encounter. If Damian Priest wins, The Visionary will be unable to confront him again, and if Rollins wins, El Campeón will be forced to leave The Judgment Day. Let’s see who comes on top.

Damian Priest retains WWE World Heavyweight Championship

The highly anticipated match between Seth Rollins and Damian Priest for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship delivered intense action and unexpected twists at WWE Money in the Bank 2024. The bell rang, and both competitors immediately showcased their quick reflexes. Priest dodged a superkick while Rollins avoided a knee strike, setting the tone for a high-paced contest.

The initial exchange saw Rollins attempting a Pedigree and Priest countering with South of Heaven, but neither could gain the upper hand. Priest managed to hit a Broken Arrow, followed by a series of forearms and a flatliner for a near fall. Rollins, undeterred, retaliated with a Sling Blade and a series of suicide dives that sent Priest crashing over the commentary table.

Back in the ring, Rollins’ springboard knee missed, but he quickly recovered with a superkick and a Lionsault for another near fall. Priest responded with a headlock driver and a near attempt at South of Heaven, but Rollins countered with a hurricanrana. The match’s momentum continued to shift as Priest delivered a powerful clothesline.

Throughout the match, Priest kept glancing toward the entrance, wary of Mr. Money in the Bank Drew McIntyre potentially cashing in. This distraction allowed Rollins to capitalize, hitting a Buckle Bomb and attempting a Stomp, which Priest countered with a sit-out powerbomb, narrowly missing a pinfall.

The crowd, chanting “This is awesome,” witnessed a fierce brawl. Priest avoided a superkick but got hit by another. Rollins seemed to have the upper hand, but Priest countered a Pedigree attempt and delivered a backbody drop. Rollins quickly hit a Stomp and covered Priest, but Priest kicked out at the last second.

With both competitors exhausted, Rollins taunted Priest, challenging him to fight. Priest, showing resilience, delivered a Razor’s Edge for another near fall. As he climbed the ropes, Rollins cut him off and executed a superplex followed by a Falcon Arrow, but the referee didn’t count the pin, leaving Rollins confused.

Drew McIntyre cashed in but CM Punk screws him again

Suddenly, Drew McIntyre’s music hit, and Mr. Money in the Bank sprinted to the ring with his briefcase, officially turning the match into a Triple Threat for the World Heavyweight Championship. McIntyre aimed for a Claymore Kick, but Rollins countered with a superkick. McIntyre responded with a Future Shock DDT, but before he could capitalize, Priest clotheslined him.

Priest then focused on McIntyre, but CM Punk shockingly appeared, attacking McIntyre with a steel chair. The crowd erupted with chants of “CM Punk” as he brutally assaulted McIntyre, culminating in smashing his face with the World Heavyweight Championship. Priest seized the opportunity, hitting South of Heaven on McIntyre and securing the pinfall victory.

With Punk sitting on the commentary table, the chaos concluded with Priest retaining the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, leaving fans buzzing about the unexpected turn of events and CM Punk’s dramatic return to WWE.
