WWE planning for Randy Orton vs Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam 2024?

WWE is all set to host the 2024 King and Queen of the Ring live on May 25, 2024 (Saturday) from the Jeddah Superdome in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. WWE has booked a total of five matches for the show including the King and Queen of the tournament finals.

Ahead of the major PLE, WWE CCO, Triple H announced that the winner of the King of the Ring & Queen of the Ring Tournament will be receiving a World Title shot of their respective brands at SummerSlam 2024. Marking it the only second time a world title shot is offered to the winner of the King of the Ring tournament. Since that’s being the case, there is a high chance of a major match occurrence at SummerSlam.

Randy Orton vs Cody Rhodes for SummerSlam 2024

Triple H’s announcement has opened the possibility for a most anticipated match, Randy Orton vs Cody Rhodes. Both have a rich history together since the beginning of Cody’s career in 2007. The former Legacy members could one on one for the Undisputed WWE Championship at SummerSlam 2024.

To have this match happen at the biggest show of the summer, Orton should win the King of the Ring Tournament and Rhodes should retain the Undisputed WWE Championship against Logan Paul at King and Queen of the Ring Tournament.

Dave Meltzer on the recent edition of Wrestling Observer Radio said that he strongly believes that Randy Orton would win the King of the Ring Tournament and would face Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam for the Undisputed WWE title.

Meltzer said,

“As far as Orton or GUNTHER, if it were me, I’m putting over Orton. Because I think Orton and Cody Rhodes is a big money match. I could see Orton and Cody at SummerSlam.”

If Orton loses to Gunther at King of the Ring finals, Gunther will be having a match against Damian Priest for the World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam 2024.

Other possible matches that could possibly be booked for SummerSlam are Lyra Valkyria vs Becky Lynch/Liv Morgan for the Women’s World Champion or Bayley vs Nia Jax/Bianca Belair for the WWE Women’s Champion. This is based on whoever wins the Queen of the Ring Tournament.
