Speculations and rumors are among some of the favorite pastimes for WWE fans worldwide. Fans from all over the world enjoy discussing and debating various aspects of the world of pro wrestling. In the aftermath of WrestleMania 41, the rumor mill continues to run in full force.
In today’s edition of the rumor roundup, we cover the latest rumors and news circulating among fans on social media, including an update on Liv Morgan, Tama Tonga’s injury, Kiana James’s return, WWE Draft, layoffs, and more.
Update on Liv Morgan
According to PWInsider, WWE has no plans to strip Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez of the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship. Morgan is expected to return to TV within the next month, if not sooner.
Additionally, as per Wrestling Observer Radio’s Bryan Alvarez, Liv Morgan is reportedly heading to Japan this week to begin filming for the movie Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo.
Tama Tonga’s injury & Kiana James’s return
According to WrestleVotes, Tama Tonga’s injury is more serious than initially expected and could also delay Tonga Loa’s return to WWE.
Bodyslam.net previously reported that Tonga may need surgery and suggested that LA Knight’s attack on the WrestleMania go-home edition of SmackDown was possibly a way to write him off TV.
As per WrestleVotes, Kiana James is close to making her in-ring return after being out of action for nearly eleven months due to injury.
She last competed on the June 17, 2024 episode of WWE Raw, where she competed in a triple threat bout against Iyo Sky and Zelina Vega just a month after being called up from NXT in the WWE Draft.
“According to sources, we are told Kiana James should be on her way back soon as she’s on the verge, if not already, of being medically cleared to compete.
James, who was drafted last year to Monday Night Raw, wrestled just two matches prior to sustaining a leg injury. She defeated Natalya in a singles match and then lost a three-way Money in the Bank qualifier.”
WWE Draft & Layoffs
According to WrestleVotes Radio, the 2025 WWE Draft is still expected to take place this year, but its timing has been disrupted by the packed schedule of multiple Premium Live Events and Saturday Night’s Main Event shows.
PWInsider reports that at least 10 WWE staff members were let go on Thursday, with cuts affecting several departments, including Photography and Creative Services.
Among those released was Christine Lubrano, who served as Senior Vice President of Creative Writing Operations.
The trademark saga
The Stamford-based promotion has now reinstated a trademark filing for Edge after it was revealed that a previous application from a few months ago had recently been listed as abandoned.
It was discovered earlier that the trademark filing made in November 2024 was marked abandoned in April 2025 due to WWE either missing the deadline or submitting a late response to an Office action.
According to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) database, the promotion refiled the trademark for the name ‘Edge’ on May 1, likely after it was noticed online.
Additionally, the USPTO notes that WWE’s application to retain the trademark has been accepted and is now moving forward for further examination.
