John Cena might not be surrendering his Intercontinental Championship just yet. A new report suggests WWE is planning for the 16-time World Champion to retain his title at Survivor Series: WarGames 2025, with Dominik Mysterio expected to take the loss.

On Wrestling Observer Live, Bryan Alvarez discussed what he’s heard regarding the direction of the feud. While WWE is known for last-minute pivots, this plan appears firm.

“John won the title from Dominik. Well, here’s the thing… what I know is that the plan and plans can change, the plan is that John Cena is beating Dominik,” Alvarez said.

The rivalry has become increasingly heated in recent weeks, with Dominik relying on cheap shots, verbal jabs, and mind games in an attempt to shake Cena ahead of their match. WWE has framed the feud around legacy and pride, two themes that define Cena’s ongoing farewell run.

A win at Survivor Series would further strengthen Cena’s Intercontinental Championship reign while adding narrative weight to the eventual final match of his career. For Dominik, however, this bout may serve as another harsh lesson rather than a breakout moment.

Will WWE stick to the reported plan, or is a twist still possible? All eyes now turn to Survivor Series.

Santos Escobar WWE return update

Santos Escobar has yet to resurface on WWE programming despite signing a new contract in October 2025. His last in-ring appearance came at a house show in July, and fans have been wondering why the former LWO star hasn’t returned to TV.

According to Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Live, Escobar’s absence is intentional. WWE is holding him back until a storyline is ready that justifies a meaningful return. Alvarez noted the company has major plans for him, saying,

“They’re not gonna’ sign this guy to this kind of money and not push him.”

Exact contract figures remain undisclosed, but reports indicate Escobar is earning significantly more than before. Alvarez also revealed that Escobar requested a meeting with Triple H prior to re-signing to discuss his creative direction.

For now, Escobar seems unbothered by the wait. As Alvarez put it, “With the money he’s making, he could sit at home for a while.”

AJ Styles is preparing for more than just life outside the ring when he retires in 2026. He’s planning a major change to his iconic look. Speaking with Inside the Ropes, the former WWE Champion admitted that his long hair may not survive past his in-ring career.

“According to my wife, it’s going to be cut soon… she doesn’t like it,” Styles said. “Not cut it all off now. But when retirement finally comes, that will be the first thing that goes… probably the hair.”

Styles even revealed he’s considering a full shave.

“I’m thinking about a full shave — just go completely gone. But if I want to grow it out after that, it’s going to look really silly.”

He joked about his past hairstyles, saying fans have dubbed them everything from “emo AJ Styles” to “soccer mom AJ Styles.” After decades of evolution, 2026 may bring his boldest transformation yet.
