According to the Wrestling Observer, ‘The Ring General’ Gunther will be John Cena’s last opponent. WWE might announce a tournament to decide Cena’s final challenger, with Gunther emerging as the winner of that tournament.
John Cena is currently set to face one of his greatest rivals, AJ Styles. The two stars are set to battle at the upcoming Crown Jewel PLE. The seventh edition of the PLE will take place on Saturday, 11 October 2025, at the RAC Arena in Perth, Western Australia, Australia.
Cena’s final match is set to take place in Washington, D.C., on December 13. Cena’s final match will headline the show in the nation’s capital. Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., will host Saturday Night’s Main Event in December, marking the venue for the historic final match of Cena‘s legendary career.
Santos Escobar’s exit

Legado Del Fantasma’s leader and former NXT Cruiserweight Champion, Santos Escobar, has left the WWE. Escobar’s tenure with the company officially ended, as his contract expired on October 6, 2025. After a six-year run, the veteran luchador chose to turn down a contract extension, making him a free agent at midnight.
According to a report from PWInsider, the promotion made “overtures to keep Escobar (including a higher contract offer)” but he declined to re-sign.
The report further added that, “Unless there is a last-second Hail Mary pass that leads to him agreeing to a new deal, Santos Escobar will depart WWE as of midnight and will be free to wrestle or sign anywhere he wishes.”
NXT Tapings & TNA Contracts
According to BodySlam.net, WWE’s developmental brand NXT will tape next week’s (October 14) episode tonight alongside the special ‘WWE NXT vs TNA Showdown’.
The highly anticipated special show of WWE NXT Showdown is all set to emanate from the WWE Performance Centre in Orlando, Florida, on October 7. It’s a special crossover episode of NXT featuring direct competition between the NXT roster and TNA.
Per Fightful, several TNA wrestlers, including Cedric Alexander, have contracts expiring after the upcoming Bound for Glory. The company is reportedly making a strong effort to re-sign key talent to maintain stability heading into the new year.
Fightful also reports that there are concerns within WWE about TNA potentially facing challenges in securing a new TV deal due to recent changes in Nielsen’s TV ratings system.
