Brie Bella and Paige survive a powerhouse challenge to retain tag team gold.
WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event continued its stacked lineup with a hard-hitting WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship clash as Brie Bella and Paige defended their titles against the imposing duo known as The Irresistible Forces (Nia Jax & Lash Legend).
The night also delivered a fun bit of symmetry with back-to-back Paige/Page matches on the card, but once the bell rang, there was nothing lighthearted about the punishment both teams absorbed inside the ring.
Nia Jax and Lash wasted no time trying to overwhelm the champions early. The challengers attempted to jump Bella and Paige before the match could properly settle, but “Scream Mode” responded quickly and fought them off before Brie launched herself from the top rope onto Jax.
The Irresistible Forces dominated large portions of the match
Brie attempted another aerial attack moments later, but Jax caught her in mid-air and planted her with a crushing Samoan Drop that immediately shifted momentum toward the challengers.
Lash tagged into the contest and nearly connected with a pump kick before Brie escaped long enough to bring Paige into the match. The champions briefly regained control, but a distraction from Jax allowed Lash to blast Paige with a massive boot.
The challengers then began targeting Paige relentlessly. Lash delivered a huge splash for a near fall while Jax added insult to injury by rubbing her backside across Paige’s neck against the ropes in a disrespectful display of dominance.
Jax and Lash continued isolating Paige on their side of the ring with repeated tags and heavy offense. Lash trapped the champion in a full nelson while Brie anxiously waited for an opening from the apron.
Paige eventually created separation by pulling down the top rope, sending Lash tumbling to the outside. Even then, she struggled to reach her corner before finally sidestepping Jax and causing the powerhouse to crash hard into the turnbuckles.
Brie Bella and Paige retain after a dramatic late comeback
That opening finally allowed Paige to tag Brie Bella into the match, instantly changing the pace of the contest. Brie unloaded with her trademark Yes Kicks and energized the crowd with a much-needed comeback sequence.
The momentum was short-lived, however, as Jax overpowered Brie with a pop-up headbutt and another brutal Samoan Drop. Lash followed with a splash from the top rope but surprisingly failed to go for the pin immediately.
Jax then connected with a second-rope leg drop that looked like the finish, but Brie somehow kicked out at two to keep the title match alive.
In the closing moments, Paige was tagged back into the match and launched herself from the top rope onto Jax with a sunset flip. Brie assisted with the leverage, allowing Paige to secure the pinfall victory and retain the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships.
