John Cena turned heel for the first time in over two decades in WWE
The ending of the WWE Elimination Chamber 2025 Premium Live Event has become the talk of the wrestling world in recent memory. John Cena abandoned the principles of Hustle, Loyalty, and Respect and turned heel for the first time in the prime of his career.
This came after he won the Men’s Elimination Chamber and had a moment with his WrestleMania 41 opponent, Cody Rhodes. Right after, he low blowed on the orders of The Rock and turned heel. With Cena turning heel and having possibilities of storylines with new dynamics, here are the five WWE stars he can face as a heel:
5. AJ Styles
AJ Styles made his return to WWE at the 2025 Royal Rumble PLE after sustaining an injury a few months prior. Styles has been garnering babyface reactions since his return. But he was not cheered by the fans during his feuds with John Cena in the past. So, a fresh rivalry with changed dynamics between Cena and Styles leading to a match would be a must-see showdown.
4. Seth Rollins
Seth Rollins was the rising heel during John Cena’s prime as a babyface. But the WWE Universe has gone on to love The Visionary on his road to stardom. Moreover, a match with heel Cena would be one of the biggest rivalries in Seth Rollins’ career and could possibly make him a much more established babyface in WWE today.
3. Roman Reigns
Ever since Roman Reigns came back at SummerSlam 2024, he has been showing signs of a babyface, despite retaining his demeanor as a heel Tribal Chief. The fans erupt in loud cheers for The OTC, which was not the case when John Cena was standing in his way.
But now that Cena is the bad guy, a change of scenario could be interesting to watch. Moreover, Cena having never beaten Reigns in a singles match and having a much more aggressive side this time would make their match even more intriguing to tune into.
2. CM Punk
If there is anyone next to Cody Rhodes in regards to a top babyface, it is CM Punk. The Best in the World has been getting loud cheers on WWE television programming each week. This makes his potential match with John Cena a perfect scenario for a traditional heel vs babyface match, being Punk and Cena, respectively.
Moreover, Punk would also have revenge on his mind as Cena was the one to eliminate him last from the Elimination Chamber to head to the main event of WrestleMania 41.
1. Randy Orton
Randy Orton is credited to be one of John Cena’s biggest rivals in WWE. However, anytime they squared off, Orton was the picture-perfect heel against the Superman babyface John Cena. But their next potential in-ring showdown would be different than any of their previous bouts.
Cena will have the character of the bad guy against the dangerous Orton, who is still cheered by the fans today. This interesting shift of dynamics would make their future and last encounter better than any other.
