MCU fans are many in the world even WWE superstars are part of it
WWE superstars are often seen as larger-than-life figures, akin to the superheroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). With their impressive physiques and charismatic personas, these athletes draw similar fanfare and admiration as the iconic Marvel characters.
And is it any shock that so many WWE stars have gone on to secure roles within the MCU, given their larger-than-life presence and innate ability for melodrama? This crossover sounds almost fated since the two worlds are intricately tied to epic narratives and superhuman characters.
Some past and present WWE superstars have even been cast in the MCU, whether it be as cameos or full-time roles.
In addition to these roles, many WWE superstars are also hardcore MCU stans, sharing the excitement for superhero tales with millions of fans worldwide.
Some have publicly declared their desire to become part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, working from auditions or simply stating that they would like in on whatever prospective project.
Here are five WWE superstars who love the Marvel Cinematic Universe:
Dave Bautista
In the WWE, he is known as “The Animal,” Batista and he is solidly among the major stars from the promotion to be attached to the MCU. He is best known worldwide for playing Drax the Destroyer in Guardians of the Galaxy and many other MCU films such as the Avengers trilogy.
As a result, Drax quickly became a fan favorite while Bautista has been incredibly open about his adoration for the role and being part of the Marvel family. One thing Bautista has always been vocal about is his time as part of the MCU something he had openly spoken about how big an impact it had on him professionally and personally, helping him successfully transition from wrestling to acting.
His involvement in the MCU extends beyond just acting; he’s been an enthusiastic promoter of the films, often sharing his excitement and support for the Marvel franchise on social media.
Seth Rollins
A five-time world champion in WWE, having won the WWE Championship twice, Universal Championship twice, and World Heavyweight Championship once, Seth Rollins is a Marvel Cinematic Universe nerd at heart. His Marvel affection has officially come full circle as he entered the MCU.
Rollins was seen on the sets of Captain America: Brave New World as rumors persist that he could be playing a bad guy, possibly one of the members of the Serpent Society. It proves his bond with Marvel is a deep one, matching up with interests beyond the wrestling ring
Randy Orton
The 14-time world champion Randy Orton (10 WWE Championships, and four World Heavyweight Championships) is also known to be an ardent fan of the MCU. Previously, he has tried getting a part in one of the Marvel films and that was Cable for Deadpool 2.
During a recent interview, he admitted to auditioning for the part before it eventually went to Josh Brolin. He mentioned that he was excited about the opportunity and thought he had a good chance, but ultimately, Brolin was chosen to portray Cable.
This attempt highlights Orton’s interest in breaking into Hollywood, and more specifically the superhero genre, which aligns with his appreciation for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The Miz
A Two-time WWE Grand Slam Champion in his own right and star of his hit reality show Miz & Mrs. with his wife Maryse, The Miz has stated in numerous interviews that he loves superhero movies, specifically Marvel films. He has dressed up as various Marvel characters for Halloween and expressed a desire to play a Marvel character in the future, showcasing his deep fandom for the universe.
Xavier Woods
One-third of The New Day, a Tag Team Triple Crown Champion and overall a 12-time tag team champion, Xavier Woods is a very upbeat comic book and MCU fan. He talks about Marvel movies all the time on his YouTube channel UpUpDownDown and can regularly be seen at comic conventions geeking out over new Marvel films.
