WWE legend Hulk Hogan's biopic starring Chris Hemsworth gets cancelled

Todd Phillips, the director of Hulk Hogan biography, has provided a definite update.
Hulk Hogan, a former WWE champion and a Hall of Famer, is an iconic figure. He was dubbed the first mega-star in professional wrestling and was instrumental in transforming the sport from a localized phenomenon to a billion-dollar industry.
His narrative is the perfect script for a blockbuster movie, and his desire came true when a film about Hulk Hogan’s life was revealed. It was also rumored that the part had been offered to Chris Hemsworth, well known for his portrayal as Marvel’s Thor on film.
Unfortunately, the Hulk Hogan biography starring Chris Hemsworth is no longer in the works, and the project’s long-term ambitions have been placed on hold. Todd Phillips, the film’s planned director, confirmed this in a recent interview.
Todd Phillips gave an interview to Variety ahead of his mammoth project Joker: Folie à Deux, and when questioned about the Hogan biopic, he replied, “I love what we were trying to do, but that’s not going to come together for me.”
Although Chris Hemsworth was putting on muscle to play Hulk Hogan and trained hard, he hinted at the project’s uncertainty last year. While chatting with Chris Van Vliet, Hemsworth said that he is clueless about what is going on behind the scenes.
Although Phillips and Hemsworth’s biography appears to be gone, another Hulk Hogan film, Killing Gawker, was revealed earlier this month. The film is produced by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck’s production company, Artists Equity, and will be directed by Gus Van Sant, who also directed Good Will Hunting.
While Affleck is reported to play Hulk Hogan, no casting has been disclosed at this time. Charles Randolph is adapting the book Conspiracy: Peter Thiel, Hulk Hogan, Gawker, and the Anatomy of Intrigue into a movie.
While Phillips and Hemsworth’s biography would have skipped Hogan’s iconic legal struggle, Killing Gawker focuses primarily on it, so it’s a good thing the former isn’t moving ahead while the latter is.
Killing Gawker is just a better narrative than a standard Hulk Hogan origin story, providing a real, uncensored portrayal of the wrestling legend. With Hemsworth’s Hulk Hogan WWE biography presumably shelved for good, attention can now go to Killing Gawker, a far more intriguing project.
