The AEW WrestleDream is one of the must watch AEW event in recent times. The event features some of the exciting matches featuring stars from AEW, ROH and NJPW. A total of 14 matches was held including 6 championship matches, seven title defenses and surprising debut of The Rated "R" Superstar Edge. Match Summary
Zero Hour:
Eight Person Mixed Tag Team Match
The Zero Hour started with the Eight Person Mixed Tag Team Match. Shane Taylor Promotions (Shane Taylor & Lee Moriarty), Diamante and Mercedes Martinez vs. Satoshi Kojima Keith Lee Athena and Billie Stark. Martinez and Billie starts the match and Athena, where Athena and Diamante Tags in.
Athena and Billie took them out and went for a suicide dive. They tagged Lee in as Taylor gets in. Lee went for a Hurricanrana. The match shifted both the sides for a while. However Athena hit Athena O-face to Lee Moriarty, Lee hit him with a Big Bang Catastrophe and Kojima hit his finisher for the win.
Josh Barnett vs Claudio Castagnoli
Both Castagnoli and Barnett grapple and counter each others move and look for a submission maneuver with ground moves. This seems like an MMA kind of a match with a number of defensive moves. However Castagnoli took control with the shoulder uppercut. Barnett fights back with a spinning kick and a side throw. Castagnoli escapes his next move and goes for a swing.
Castagnoli with boxing punches to the face and arm extender, locking both the arms and convert it into a pinfall for the win. Barnett shows some respect to Castagnoli and says that he will come for a title shot in the nearby future.
LuchaSaurus vs Nick Wayne
Wayne with a drop kick straight away, but Saurus hit him with a Clothesline and Suplex. Saurus took control of the match with a sideliner and slam. Saurus tried to Chokeslam, but Wayne fights back. However Saurus took him down with a Chokeslam over the Apron. Saurus threw Wayne face first to the barricade and attacks him in front of Wayne's mom. Nick Wayne went to the top rope and hit a Moonsault, but Saurus hit him with a strike to the back of his neck for the win.
AEW World Trios Championship Match
Bad Dude Tito and Max Caster starts the match as Tito went for a shoulder tackle. Shane Haste and Billy Gunn tags-in as Gunn took him down with a powerslam. Bowens tags in and the champs took the challengers down. However after the scissors celebration mid match, the momentum shifter towards TMDK. Bowens was targeted by Tito and Nicholls.
Bowens tried to fight back but Tito took him down with a slam and they lock him in their corner to separate from tagging his partners. Bowens manages to tag-in Gunn, he clears the house. Gunn looks for a Famouser but Titi countered him and all the three dominate the champs. Gunn hit him with a Famouser and Bowens with his finisher and Caster with a Elbow drop from top rope make them pick win to retain the championship.
Main Show
ROH World Tag Team Championship Match- Two on One Handicap Match
The main show begins with the 2-on-1 Handicap match for the ROH Tag Team Championship. Where MJF defends the tag titles against The Righteous. MJF has the mic and addresses the rumors of him attacking Jay White and regretted it. MJF promises to retain the tag titles.
MJF and Dutch starts the match, where MJF offers handshake and plucks his eye. He took both the members of The Righteous in, and got backfires as they took him with a Clothesline and rapid kicks. Dutch locks MJF with the headlock, but MJF sneaks between his legs. He look to powerslam Dutch but landed on him. Dutch slammed MJF and Vincent with a combination, but not enough. Vincent took the chair to attack MJF but he crush his groin. MJF took advantage and hit both with a 10 punches and bite Vincent. MJF hit a Powerslam on Dutch, sent him shoulder first to the ring post, drop kicked both and Heat Seeker for the win.
ROH World Championship & Strong Openweight Championship Match
Eddie Kingston hits Shibata with Chops to the chest as he asks more and more, now Shibata hit chops on him. Shibata took the control with a kick to the chest and leg lock. Eddie breaks it, however Shibata delivers a Figure 4-lock. Eddie broke the Figure-four, however Shibata targets Kingston's leg. Kingston delivers a backdrop and series of chops, but Shibata hit him with a couple of Drop kicks.
Shibata hits Kingston with series of kicks to the face as it fired Kingston, as he went chopping his chest. Both went for back to back strikes. Kingston delivers as Overhead Suplex and Shibata hits him with a back breaker. Shibata locks him with an arm extender, but Kingston grabbed the ropes. Kingston hit him with a Hurricane and Powerbomb for the win. Both shared respect by raising each others hands.
AEW TBS Championship Match
Kris Statlander took the initial control of the match. Julia Hart tries to fightback, but Statlander showcase extreme power to counter the very next move. Hart changed the momentum by taking Statlander out. Hart controlled the mid match by slowing down Statlander with an Extender, but Statlander took her with a shoulder throw, right hand and a swinging slam.
As Statlander went for the top rope, Hart took her down and hit her with a Moonsault. Statlander then hit a Couple of Thombtone Piledriver for the win to retain the AEW TBS Championship.
Four-way Tag Team #1 Contenders Match for the AEW World Tag Team Championship
Rey Fenix and Nick Jackson starts the match. Both mirror similar moves and went down. Orange Cassidy tags-in and Rey tags Penta in. The Gunns howevet took Penta down and cleared the house. Where Rhe Young Bucks took the match under their wings.
Cassidy and Nick fight hand to hand, and Hook tags in. Cassidy and Hook suplexed The Gunns down. However, The Gunns took control of the match with a 2 on 1 attack on Hook. Hook tags Penta. Penta cleared the house with super kicks.
Penta hit a Thunderbomb, The Gunn with a DDT, Cassidy with a DDT, Matt Jackson with a DDT on each other. Hook tried to choke Austin Gunn, but Matt Jackson tagged in.
Penta went to the ring and delivered a combination with the help of Matt Jackson. Matt and Nick then went for a series of Superkick, whoever enters the ring and hit him with a Splash for the win.
“Hangman” Adam Page vs Swerve Strickland
Both locked their shoulders as Swerve with the initial strike and receives the counter the very next move. Both exchange chops as Page went for rapid kicks. Swerve fights back and have a brief control. Page took Swerve down and controlled the entire mid-match.
Swerve fought back with a Flatliner and Brain buster. Swerve went for the top rope, Page tried to stops him, but Swerve stomped on the chest. Page hit a Dead Eye over the steel stairs. Swerve delivered and arm lock to damage Page arms.
Swerve went for a Swerve stomp from top of the rope over the Apron. Swerve hit a German Suplex. Page hit a Spring Board Clothesline. Swerve hit Page with a weapon to the head, House Kicked him and JML driver for the win.
Ricky Starks vs Wheeler Yuta
Both counters each others moves and has back to back strikes. Starks hit a powerslam, a walk through the rope and Samoan Drop. When Yuta tried to fightback, Starks delivered a overhead suplex. Yuta took control, while on the top rope with a diving sideliner.
When he tried to grapple, Big Bill distracts him. Starks hit a Tornado DDT, Powerbomb and back of the elbow to Yuta's neck. Yuta took Starks down over Big Bill and drives Bill shoulder first to the ring post. Starks hit a spear and The Buster Keaton for the win.
Bryan Danielson vs Zack Sabre Jr.
Both go for technical moves to make each other submit with number of Submission maneuvers and counter each others move. Zack with the first strike with an uppercut. Bryan with a uppercut on the left. It seems like Bryan injure his right arm.
Zack targeted the injured hand. He hit a stomp arm extender and bends his finger back. Danielson fights back as he targets Zack's leg. With a leg throw and leg lock. Bryan delivers a disarmer and leg lock to Zack. Zack escapes Bryan's lock and kicked in the bad arm.
Zack targeted Bryan's bad arm again and again. Sabre delivered a Arm bar on Bryan, but on the other hand. Bryan fought back and hit a couple of Running Knee for the win. Bryan Danielson offered Zack Sabre Jr. a handshake but he rejected it.
Six-Man Tag Team Match- Chris Jericho & The Golden Elite vs The Don Callis Family
Kenny Omega and Will Ospreay start the match. They have a back to back throwdown and Guevara got tagged in. As Jericho came in and hit him with a couple of chops tagged Ospreay in. Everyone walked in and became a brawl. However The Golden Elite & Jericho stood tall.
Omega and Ospreay were the legal man then, where Ospreay took Omega down an and tagged Takeshita in. Takeshita hit a flying Clothesline and tagged Ospreay in. They lock Omega to their corner and started punishing him with back to back tag-ins.
Guevara hit a Swanton Bomb to Omega. Omega however fought back and tagged Jericho in. Jericho hit a Lion Sault on Guevara. The Don Callis family especially Takeshita took everyone down. Ospreay and Omega had a face off and and everyone took Omega out. They tried to finish Jericho, but Jericho is fired up and attacked all the three, but the numbers game took Jericho down.
Ibushi then took all the three of Don Callis Family. Everyone entered the ring and exchanged knee strikes and kicks on each other. Jericho took Ospreay with the Judas Effect, but ref was distracted. Jericho locked Walls of Jericho on Guevara, where Callis hit him with a stick and Guevara pinned him for the win.
AEW World Tag Team Championship Match
Dax and Fletcher started the match, and tackled each others move. FTR had a back to back tag in and had the initial control. The Aussie Open however took both down with a clash lifting them on the top of the shoulders.
When Cash Wheeler tried to gain some momentum and tag Max Harwood in Fletcher and Davis stopped him. Wheeler took the fight to the top rope, where Wheeler delivered a back drop on Fletcher. Max tagged in and fired up. He took both Fletcher and Davis down with the Clotheslime.
Max delivered 4 German Suplexes on Fletcher and went to the top rope. Davis walked in and hit him with a slam and a face first combo with Fletcher, but not enough. The Aussie Open with a right hand combo and a face first code breaker. FTR delivered a Piledriver to Davis on the apron and Goodnight Express for the win.
AEW TNT Championship Match- Two out of Three Falls Match
Darby Allin had the initial strike, as Cage pissed him off. Cage looks to grapple move, but Allin quickly pinned Cage to take the first fall. Allin 1, Cage 0.
After losing the first fall, Cage took control of the match, he slow down Allin with head lock and slam. Allin tried to pin the same way, but Cage is aware, kicked out and sent Allin drive through the barricade. Cage had a face off with Allin's mom.
She poured water on Cage's face. Allin hit a Suicide Dive and senton. He climbed the top rope for a senton, but Cage has his knees up. Cage pushed Allin to the Announcement Desk and delivered three Slams over the steel steps. Cage left Allin on the floor and won the second fall by count out victory. Allin 1, Cage 1.
Medical team emerged to take Allin in the stretcher. Cage is now removing the ring mat and hit a frog splash on Allin, who was in the stretcher.
Allin's mom is in tears and the crowd is praying for Allin. Cage took Allin to the ring and delivere a Cult Switch on the exposed ring, but Allin kicked out. Christian locked Allin with a Sharpshooter. Allin fights back and hit him with a Senton.
When he goes for another, he pulled him off. Cage accidentally hit a speared the ref., low blew Allin. Cage took the belt, which Nick Wayne pulled and he turned on his brother Allin, by attacking him with the belt. Cage won the third fall. Allin 1, Cage 2.
After the Match
Christian Cage, Wayne and LuchaSaurus attacked Allin. Sting came for the aid but the numbers advantage took him out. When Cage took Chair to hit Sting on the head, lights went off. A person driving car was played on the big screen.
Edge made his AEW debut with the Metalingus theme and crowd went for a huge pop. Edge took the chair and teased of attacking Sting, but attacked Wayne, and LuchaSaurus. He speared LuchaSaurus to the steel chair. Cage sneaks out and had a deep stare down on Edge. Allin offered a handshake, so does Sting. They have a handshake and AEW went off air.
