Owen Hart Foundation Tournament continued this week on Dynamite
AEW Dynamite broadcasted live from the Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena in Baltimore, covering all of the ramifications from Sunday night’s Dynasty PPV. The Women’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament will continue with Kris Statlander and Thunder Rosa facing off in the first round.
AEW Dynamite delivered another action-packed night on April 9, with marquee matchups, tournament drama, and chaos across the board. Jon Moxley squared off with Katsuyori Shibata in a stiff, no-nonsense brawl to kick off Dynamite. The two warriors traded strikes and submissions in a classic strong-style showcase, but Moxley dug deep and tapped Shibata out early with surprising ease.
After the match, the chaos kicked off. The Young Bucks made their way to the ring, throwing shots on the mic before calling out Moxley with a surprising twist, they praised him. Matt Jackson even pitched the idea of a working relationship between the Bucks and Death Riders.
But instead of Moxley, out came Kenny Omega to confront them! He torched the Bucks with some brutal truths, calling them a mess that nearly tanked AEW. Then came Okada… and Swerve Strickland! The three confronted the Bucks before sending them packing. Omega and Swerve shared a respectful fist bump… but just when things cooled off, PAC ambushed Swerve to kick off the next bout!
Still reeling from PAC’s sneak attack, Swerve Strickland didn’t just weather the storm, he flipped it on its head. Dominating nearly every moment, Strickland punished PAC with brutal kicks before ending it with a top-rope stomp that shook the ring to win the match.
In a high-octane battle with serious money on the line, Team Speedball (Mike Bailey, Will Ospreay, Mark Briscoe & Kevin Knight) took on the high-flyers and wreckers Ricochet, Lio Rush, Action Andretti & The Beast Mortos. This was fast-paced madness from bell to bell, and Ospreay sealed the win with a brutal Hidden Blade.
MVP, Lashley, Shelton Benjamin, and the rest of The Hurt Syndicate hit the ring to celebrate their dominancebut MJF had other plans. After helping the group retain gold, he pitched the idea of teaming up. MVP gave him a chance, but when the votes were cast, Benjamin hit MJF with a cold “thumbs down.”
Backstage, tensions remained high. Lashley dismissed MJF completely, and MVP told him flat-out, “your reputation is why they don’t trust you.”
In next match, with Toni Storm watching closely at ringside, Kris Statlander staged a fiery comeback against Thunder Rosa. Despite the odds, she powered through a brutal sequence to land a lariat and finish with her Saturday Night Fever.
The main event saw two AEW power squads collide. The Death Riders (Moxley & Castagnoli) clashed with The Opps (Samoa Joe & HOOK), and the result was utter chaos. Shibata choked out Moxley on the outside, Joe neutralized Claudio, and HOOK scored the win with a sleeper hold in the ring.
After the match, Marina Shafir came to the Death Riders’ aid, chair in hand, sparking a wild brawl. Castagnoli hit HOOK with a devastating piledriver onto a steel chair. Samoa Joe, never one to back down, called them cowards and issued a challenge for a Trios Championship Match down the line.
