An elite class of AEW superstars have achieved incredible feats during their tenure in 2024.
AEW, which has emerged as the top direct competitor to wrestling juggernaut, WWE, had one of the most successful years in 2024. However, a major part of that success has been contributed by some of the most compelling talent on their rosters.
With careers defined, history-making moments etched and incredible accolades clinched by the roster members, here are Khel Now’s top 10 AEW superstars of 2024:
10. Chris Jericho
Known for his constant evolution, Chris Jericho debuted a new gimmick, “The Learning Tree”, in 2024, which captivated the audience in a unique manner. Not only that, he also added the FTW title to his resume following a classic and heated feud with HOOK that garnered major attention. He also recently clinched the ROH World Championship, which was one of the best years of his career.
9. Kazuchika Okada
The Japanese sensation Kazuchika Okada made a huge impact in his very first year in the company. Aligning himself with The Young Bucks as part of the Elite, Okada became untouchable for many. Moreover, his exceptional in-ring acumen led him to win the Continental title and put up some memorable matches in AEW in 2024.
8. Mariah May
In only a year since her arrival, Mariah May went from being a sidekick to “The Champion” of the women’s division. After gaining attention as Timeless Toni Storm’s protege, Mariah went on to win the Owen Hart Foundation tournament and turned on her mentor. This led to a classic showdown between them at AEW All In, where Mariah May ended the remarkable title reign of Toni Storm to become the new AEW Women’s World Champion.
7. Will Ospreay
Will Ospreay proved his worth as one of the best in-ring talents in the world in his very first year as a full-time AEW superstar. From delivering some of the most mesmerizing and exceptional in-ring matches with stars like Swerve Strickland, MJF and Ricochet to capturing two AEW International titles, Ospreay made a big impact in the company in 2024.
6. Timeless Toni Storm
Timeless Toni Storm had one of the most remarkable years, etching herself as one of the greatest AEW Women’s World Champions. Putting down top-calibre stars like Serena Deeb, Deonna Purrazzo and Mina Shirakawa, Toni Storm went on to have a lengthy and dominant reign until she found her match in her own protege, Mariah May.
5. Mercedes Mone
One of the biggest signings in the history of professional wrestling, Mercedes Mone, lived up to all the hype upon her arrival at AEW in 2024. In her very first match for the company, she defeated Willow Nightingale to win the TBS Championship at Double or Nothing.
Soon after, she followed it up by capturing the NJPW Strong title from Stephanie Vaquer at Forbidden Door and becoming a double champion. In only one year, Mercedes has turned major eyeballs towards AEW and is looking to become their top star in the coming year.
4. Jon Moxley
Despite being off television programming during the first half of 2024, Jon Moxley made a huge impact upon his resurgence in the second half. Aligning himself with Marina Shafir and the Black Pool Combat Club, Moxley went on to defeat Bryan Danielson to win his record-breaking third AEW World Championship and is looking to lead the charge as the title holder in the new year.
3. MJF
MJF made his unexpected return at Double or Nothing event following his World title loss at the end of last year. Since that moment, he picked up business right where he left off and became even more ruthless. This led to him capturing the AEW International Championship, decimating stars like Daniel Garcia, Roderick Strong, and his former ally Adam Cole and having one of the most classic rivalries with Will Ospreay that had the audience captivated for a long time.
2. Bryan Danielson
In his last year as a full-time performer, Bryan Danielson looked to make a lasting impression in AEW. Following his amazing performance in the Continental Classic, Bryan went on to win the Men’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament. This victory led him to main eventing AEW All In at Wembley Stadium in London and defeating Swerve Strickland in a monumental match to finally capture the top prize in AEW since his arrival in 2021. While Bryan’s full-time run might have come to an end following his loss to Jon Moxley, 2024 was surely one of his defining years of his career.
1. Swerve Strickland
Swerve Strickland scratched and clawed his way to achieve a life-long dream of becoming World Champion. At AEW Dynasty, he outlasted the dominant Samoa Joe to win the World Championship and lay his claim at the top of the food chain. Strickland proved himself to be a top champion, defeating the likes of Will Ospreay during his reign. Despite losing the title in historic fashion at 2024 All In, Swerve Strickland remained at the top, truly making AEW in 2024 “Whose House?” “Swerve’s House.”
