Bryan Danielson is considered as one of the best pro wrestlers of all-time
On October 2, 2024, AEW Dynamite had a historic night for wrestling fans as Bryan Danielson defeated Kazuchika Okada in a highly anticipated bout. This victory improved Danielson’s prominence in AEW as a World Champion. After the program went off-air, Bryan Danielson publicly praised AEW while discreetly calling out WWE, grabbing the headlines.
The evening was particularly noteworthy since it commemorated AEW Dynamite’s fifth anniversary. Following the show, AEW President Tony Khan addressed the fans where he thanked them for their support over the past five years. He also acknowledged Bryan Danielson’s assistance in helping AEW to grow.
Danielson, who was given the mic, began by showing appreciation to both Tony Khan and the fans, stating, “First of all, I’d like to thank Tony Khan. Without him, AEW wouldn’t be here. You wouldn’t have an alternative. It is better that AEW exists for the wrestlers, for the production people, and for professional wrestling fans.”
However, Danielson’s speech quickly took a reflective and emotional turn. The AEW World Champion revisited his wrestling roots in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, a place he credits with shaping his career.
He joked with the crowd by saying, “I first wrestled in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, 23 years ago. I don’t know if you guys remember, but you were the crowd that made me into a WrestleMania main eventer [laughs]. So I just wanted to say thank you, Pittsburgh.”
The most striking part of his post-show address came when Danielson directly referenced his departure from WWE in 2021, adding a subtle jab at his former employer.
He continued by saying, “Last but certainly not least, I want to thank all the men and women in the back because they’re the ones who made this place so great that I had a lifetime job at WWE, and I chose to come here because there were the best wrestlers in the world, the best fans in the world, and this is the best wrestling company in the world.”
Danielson concluded by promoting the upcoming AEW WrestleDream event, where he’s set to face Jon Moxley in a heated bout. With his signature intensity, Danielson hyped the crowd, saying, “Next week, check out WrestleDream because at WrestleDream, in Tacoma, Washington, I am gonna kick Jon Moxley’s f***ing head in.”
In addition to his match against Jon Moxley, Danielson will team up with Wheeler Yuta to fight Claudio Castagnoli and PAC on the October 8th episode of AEW Dynamite. As WrestleDream approaches, Danielson’s statements have fueled interest in AEW and its future.
