Buddy Matthews re-signs with AEW: Reports

Matthews initially joined the company in February 2022

Buddy Matthews appears to be staying with All Elite Wrestling for the foreseeable future. According to Ibou of WrestlePurists, Buddy Matthews has signed a new contract with AEW. It is unclear when Matthews signed a new contract with AEW, or how long he will be under contract.

Buddy Matthews joined All Elite Wrestling in February 2022 and made his House of Black debut, alongside Malakai Black and Brody King. Matthews’ future with AEW was called into question later in the year when he reportedly wanted to return to WWE, but he has stayed with the company ever since.

Matthews is currently off AEW TV after being written out of storylines due to a backstage attack from The Patriarchy, allowing the 35-year-old to marry WWE’s Rhea Ripley. When Matthews will return to AEW programming is uncertain, however, Malakai Black and Brody King have been booked as a tag team in his place.

Buddy Matthews, an AEW star, had a humorous reaction to Rhea Ripley licking Dominik Mysterio on WWE Monday Night Raw.

Dominik Mysterio has been attempting to regain Rhea Ripley’s good graces since her return on the July 8 Raw program, when she found Mysterio with Women’s World Champion Liv Morgan.

Dirty Dom attempted to win Ripley back on Monday’s (June 22) episode, when he informed Liv Morgan that he despised her in a verbal storm.

After making Liv Morgan weep, Rhea Ripley whispered something into Mysterio’s ear and licked his face. Buddy Matthews, Rhea Ripley’s real-life husband turned to Twitter to respond to this episode.

Matthews referenced the occasion by sharing a GIF of Stitch from Lilo & Stitch licking a window, which can be seen below.

Rhea Ripley hasn’t competed in-ring since she defeated Becky Lynch at WrestleMania 40 in April. She was forced to give up the Women’s World Championship a few weeks later after sustaining a shoulder injury in a backstage part.

Following Lynch’s victory in a battle royal to take the vacant championship, Liv Morgan beat The Man for the Women’s World Championship at King & Queen of the Ring.
