Taz is currently part of AEW!
In a moment that stunned fans inside the 2300 Arena, AEW and ROH officials announced that former WWE star and ECW legend Taz will be inducted into the venue’s Hardcore Hall of Fame.
The news broke right after the August 27 episode of AEW Dynamite in Philadelphia, when AEW President Tony Khan stepped into the ring to make the official reveal.
Taz, who built his name as one of ECW’s most feared competitors during the 1990s, had no idea about the honor. As the announcement was made, members of the AEW roster joined him in the ring, wearing vintage Team Taz Dojo shirts.
His wife and son, HOOK, were also present for the special moment, creating an emotional celebration capped off by the fans chanting, “Thank you, Taz.” AEW later confirmed that the tribute will continue on the August 30 episode of Collision.
Taz’s lasting legacy in Philadelphia
The Hardcore Hall of Fame at the 2300 Arena recognizes wrestlers who made their mark in the iconic venue, and Taz’s resume speaks for itself. His dominant run in ECW included reigns as World Heavyweight Champion, FTW Champion, Television Champion, and Tag Team Champion.
Known for his suplex-heavy style and intense promos, Taz helped shape ECW’s identity during its rise in the 1990s.
Following his in-ring run, Taz moved on to WWE, where he transitioned into commentary and became a familiar voice on shows like SmackDown.
In AEW, he returned to prominence as the leader of Team Taz, mentoring talents such as Ricky Starks, Powerhouse Hobbs, Brian Cage, and his son HOOK. The Hall of Fame induction adds yet another chapter to his storied career.
AEW Dynamite delivers chaos and surprises
The August 27 Dynamite wasn’t just about Taz’s surprise induction. Fans saw Jon Moxley defeat Daniel Garcia in the opener, while HOOK made his dramatic return with a new theme song and an attack on Wheeler Yuta.
The night also featured Kenny Omega reuniting with Hangman Page, setting the stage for future storylines, and a chaotic Trios Championship defense by The Opps.
Darby Allin closed the night with a victory over Claudio Castagnoli in a Falls Count Anywhere match, but his celebration was short-lived as Gabe Kidd and the Death Riders launched a brutal attack. Mercedes Moné’s belt showcase and multiple tag matches added even more intrigue ahead of AEW All Out.
When will Taz’s Hardcore Hall of Fame tribute air?
The tribute will continue on AEW Collision, airing August 30, 2025.
What titles did Taz win in ECW?
Taz captured the ECW World Heavyweight, Television, Tag Team, and FTW Championships.
Where is the Hardcore Hall of Fame located?
It is housed inside the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, the original home of ECW.
