Archery World Cup Stage 3: Indian men's recurve team wins bronze medal

India had won three medals overall till date

India's men's archery recurve team won the bronze medal by defeating rivals China at Archery World Cup Stage 3 in Medellin. The team consisted of top three Indians from the individual qualification rounds (Tushar Shelke, Mrinal Chauhan, and Dhiraj Bommadevara). India has now won three medals overall (all bronze) in the first three days of the competition.

Seeded fourth, the Indian team received a bye in the opening round. They had a smooth sailing until the semi-finals defeating Canada and Colombia in round 2 and the quarter-finals. The recurve team was up against world giants and top seed South Korea in the semis who decimated the Indians (6-0). The Indian team had a chance to win a medal and in an matter of few minutes took on China to claim the bronze medal by defeating them (5-3).

The women's recurve archery team did not have a good time as they bowed out of the event quite early losing in the second round to France. The seventh seeded Indian women's team received a bye in the opening round but lost in the following round to tenth seed France bringing their team event to an end.

In the compound individual section, Abhishek Verma progressed through to the semi-finals and is set to take on 21st seed Luccas Abreu of Brazil. Upcoming star Ojas Pravin Deotale lost in the opening round whereas Rajat Chauhan made it to round 3. Top seed in women's compound Aditi Gopichand lost in third round to 17th seed Jaatma (143-145) whereas 26-year-old Jyothi Surekha Vennam made her exit in the quarter-finals Alexis Ruiz (142-145).
