World Archery Youth Championships 2023: Avneet Kaur, Priyansh clinch gold in U-21 mixed compound

India has secured three medal till date at the championships
India's U-21 mixed Compound team of Avneet Kaur and Priyansh clinched gold medal by defeating Israel (146-144) in the final of World Archery Youth Championships 2023. Avneet Kaur, 18, recently won the bronze medal in individual section at the Archery World Cup Stage 2 held in Shanghai and a month later clinches bronze continuing her fine run. Priyansh, 20, on the other hand was part of the Indian team at Archery Asia Cup I and was one of the top seeds at the event after the conclusion qualification stage.
The final against Israel was a closely contested one. The first series concluded in a tie (37-37) and India took a one-point lead in the following series (35-34). Israel fought back to level things back in the third (38-39) with an even scoreline ahead of the final round (111-111). In the final series, India had a poor start (scoring 6 and 7 respectively) which the Israel archers could have taken advantage of but in the end one of them scored six points taking their deficit down and ultimately lost the match by two points.
In the qualification round of U-21 men's compound, three Indians finished inside top 10; Priyansh (2nd - 701), Prathamesh Jawkar (4th - 697), and Kushal Dalal (6th - 696). On the other hand, three women's compound archers finished inside the top 5; Avneet (2nd - 690), Parneet Kaur (3rd - 686), and Pragati (4th - 683).
