World Archery Youth Championships 2023: Indian U-18, U-21 Compound women's team clinch gold

India has secured six medals to date at the championships

India's U-18 and U-21 Compound women's team defeated USA and Italy respectively to secure the top spot at the World Archery Youth Championships 2023. The U-18 team consisting of Aishwarya Sharma, Aditi Gopichand Swami, and Ekta Rani defeated the USA (214-212) in a closely contested final. The U-21 team had the likes of experienced Avneet Kaur, Parneet Kaur, and Pragati who unlike their junior counterparts had an easy victory against Italy (222-214).

In the third final of the day for the Indians, the U-18 compound team comprising of Manav Jadhao, Pawan Gat, and Ganesh Thirumuru lost in a nail biting finale by just one point against Mexico (215-216). The Indian team started on a poor note and were trailing by eight points at the end of first series (49-57). However, they caught up pace and narrowed down the trial by three points by scoring (58-53) in the second.

The momentum was carried forwarded to the third series as well and secured one-point lead going into the final series. The final series was a low scoring affair (52-54) and at the crunch situation the Indian team faltered to hand Italy the top spot.

In the U-21 men's compound bronze medal match, India lost to the USA (213-229) by a huge 16 points margin. India has overall won six medals (gold - three, silver - one, bronze - three) to date at the World Archery Youth Championships 2023 with the recurve team matches and compound and recurve individual matches yet to be completed.

Gold Medal - U-18 Women's Compound team of Aditi, Aishwarya, and Ekta beat USA (214-212)

Gold Medal - U-21 Women's Compound team of Avneet, Parneet, and Pragati beat Italy (222-214)

Silver Medal - U-18 Men's Compound team of Manav, Pawan, and Ganesh lost to Italy (215-216)

Bronze Medal Playoffs - U-21 Men's Compound team of Priyansh, Prathamesh Jawkar, and Kushal Dalal lost to the USA (213-229)
