Asian Games 2023: Indian women's compound archery team bags gold

This is Jyothi Surekha Vennam's second gold medal at the ongoing meet.

Indian archers Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Aditi Gopichand and Parneet Kaur clinched gold medal in women's compound archery team event at the Asian Games 2023 with a score line of 230-229.

The final match pitted the team from India against Chinese Taipei, comprising Yi-Hsuan Chen, I-Jou Huang, and Lu-Yun Wang. The Indian team started the match at a slight disadvantage, trailing by two points after the first round. India accumulated a score of 54 points in response to the Chinese Taipei team's impressive tally of 56 points.

India staged an impressive comeback and took the lead with a score line of 112-111 at the conclusion of the following round. However, the scores were leveled at 171 after the third. In the fourth and final round, the Indian team accumulated 59 and 60 points, narrowly edging out their opponents who could only manage to score 58 and 59 points respectively and settled for a silver medal.

Earlier in the day, the Indian team faced Hong Kong in the quarter-final stage of the event. They emerged victorious by a healthy lead with a score line of 231-220 points. From the very first round, Indian women dominated the game and had a two point lead till the end of second round. In the third round, they managed to increase their lead by six points and in the final took it to 11 points.

In the semifinals, the Indian trio had a dominating display of skills as they beat Indonesia 233-219. From the very beginning of the semifinal round, Indian women were at a lead and maintained it till the last moment to cement their spot in the final. This is India’s 19th gold medal and 82nd overall including 31 silver and 32 bronze medals at the Asian Games 2023.

Later in the day, Indian men archers Ojas Pravin Deotale, Abhishek Verma and Prathamesh Samadhan Jawkar will face Bhutan in the quarter-final round of the compound archery men’s team event.
