Archery World Cup 2024, Stage 1: Indian men's recurve team reach final; Jyothi Surekha Vennam makes compound semis

The Indian men’s recurve team will face top-seeded South Korea in the final on Sunday.
The Indian men’s recurve team reached the final of the Archery World Cup 2024 Stage 1 on Thursday (April 25).
The men’s recurve team, comprising Dhiraj Bommadevara, Tarundeep Rai, and Pravin Jadhav, exhibited their prowess with the bow and secured a spot in the final in Shanghai. The Indian team was seeded second ahead of the Archery World Cup 2024 Stage 1, and as a result, they received a bye in the first round.
In the second round, they initially dropped points against Indonesia; however, the Indian team later crafted a brilliant comeback to seal the victory 5-3. Afterwards, the Indian trio gave consistent performances to record dominant victories over Spain 5-1 and then Italy 5-1.
Up next, the Indian men’s recurve team will face the Tokyo Olympics gold medal-winning Korean trio of Kim Woojin, Lee Woo Seok, and Kim Je Deok on Sunday (April 28) in the final of the Archery World Cup 2024 Stage 1.

On the other side, the Indian women’s team finished in the sixth spot in the qualifiers. The Indian women’s team of Deepika Kumari, Ankita Bhakat, and Bhajan Kaur also enjoyed a bye in the first round. However, they lost in the second round against Mexico, despite leading 3-1.
Meanwhile, Priyansh in men’s individual and Jyothi Surekha Vennam in women’s individual have advanced to their respective semifinals in the compound event. Vennam won three gold medals in compound events at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games (women’s individual, women’s team, and mixed team). On the other hand, Priyansh is a U-21 compound archery World Champion.
