Kaur qualified through Final Olympic qualification event held in Turkiye.

On the final day of the qualification, Bhajan Kaur booked her place in Paris Olympics 2024 in the Individual Recurve Archery event. The teenager has been eye-catching ever since she burst onto the scene and her bronze medal-winning performance in the Hangzhou Asian Games established her capability to win at big stages. India will be hopeful for a medal from the 18-year-old.

How did Bhajan Kaur qualify for Paris Olympics 2024?

The qualification for various events happened in two ways, either through rankings or through Quotas for each National Olympic Committee (NOC) which is an organization from each country that helps their athletes perform in the Olympics. While for events like Badminton, it is the rankings based on a player’s performance the qualifying spots will be decided.

For Archery, spots are awarded through quotas for each NOC/country based on their performance in World Championships, Continental Games, Continental Championships, and the Final World Quota Tournament.

Bhajan Kaur had to take the last available route of the Final World Quota Tournament in Türkiye to ensure that she would be packing her bags to Paris by July-mid.

Bhajan Kaur’s Journey to Paris Olympics

Bhajan’s Olympic dream started at the Hangzhou Asian Games when she was part of the Women’s recurve team event. The team won the bronze medal, but it wasn’t enough to book a berth to Paris. She had to take a bigger route which was through the Final World Quota Qualification Tournament. The trio of Deepika Kumari, Bhajan Kaur, and Ankita Bhakat lost in the Round of 16 to miss out on a spot in the team event.

It was left to the final spot which was in the individual event and the teenager won the event, beating the top seed in the finals. Indian women’s archery team also later qualified for Paris based on rankings quota.

Kaur’s qualification came following a resounding 6-2 win over Mobina Fallah of Iran in the gold medal match. Kaur won the first set 28-26 after opening with two nines, displaying composure and accuracy. Both archers shot 29 in the second set, which showed the class of both women. After that, Kaur took charge and won the third set 29–26. The 18-year-old didn’t give an inch as she tied the fourth set 29–29, to take the game 6-2.
