'Every Indian knows Panja' Co-owner Preeti Jhangiani reveals reason behind starting Pro Panja League

Pro Panja League is an entertaining sport.

A new sports league has been launched in the emerging world of sports, and behind it are none other than Preeti Jhangiani and Parveen Dabas, who are the co-owners of Pro Panja League. They have created a revolution in the sport of panja and made a mainstream league.

Preeti Jhangiani, the co-owner of the Pro Panja League, is very excited about Season 2. After the grand success of Season 1, Preeti is confident that Season 2 will also do well.

Speaking to Khel Now, Preeti revealed why she chose this sport and the challenges she faced to start this league. She further added that her husband, Pravinn Dabbas, who is also the co-owner of this league, was very fond of combat sports, and because of that, they started this league.

Preeti has been a popular actress. She is known for her role in ‘Mohabbatein’, and along with her husband, she will try to bring this sport to the Olympics. Preeti is also the president of the Arm Wrestling Association of India.

Here are some of the excerpts from the Interview.

Why Panja? What made you believe this could work as a mainstream league in India?

Preeti Jhangiani: Panja is a game that every person in India knows about. Not only in India but internationally, this sport is appreciated.

Everyone has heard of panja and arm wrestling and has played it at some point in their lives. Plus, this is a sport that doesn’t require any special equipment. You don’t need any shoes, pads, training, or protective gear. That’s why the financial entry point for any athlete is very low.

Therefore, we believed that this is a game that can attract the attention of the people. It is a very interactive sport and exciting to watch.

What inspired you to start the Pro Panja League?

Preeti Jhangiani: Actually, Pravin has always been a big fan of combat sports. So, combat sports have always been a huge thing in our house, but we felt that, compared to all the other combat sports, Panja has more potential to become a big televised sport.

When you started, what was the biggest challenge in launching the league?

Preeti Jhangiani: We faced many problems. Firstly, we had to convince the channels that this was a game people would love to watch, because even though we were already quite big on social media, the numbers were already getting huge.

The main issue was of broadcast, as short and long format broadcasts are different. The main challenge around us was whether this would work in broadcast?

Every sport has a different language. We did a lot of research on this game, how to shoot it, present it, what the audience is like, and how to make it exciting for the fans.

Do you see Pro Panja League as a sport or a hybrid sports-entertainment model?

Preeti Jhangiani: Panja is a sport that is a mix of entertainment, but what happens on the table is real. It has a lot of drama, excitement, and fights, just like UFC or WWE. There’s a lot of excitement about the fight rules, but what happens on the table is real.

Where and when will Pro Panja League Season 2 take place?

Season 2 of the Pro Panja League will be held in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, from August 5 to 21.

How many teams are participating in Season 2 of Pro Panja League?

A total of six teams are participating:

Mumbai Muscle

Jaipur Veers

Kiraak Hyderabad

Sher-e-Ludhiana

Rohtak Rowdies

MP Hathodas (the new entrant and home team)

What is the format of the Pro Panja League matches?

The league follows a bout-based format with matches categorized by weight divisions for men, women, and para-athletes. Players aim to score a certain number of “pins” to win rounds, with teams competing in a league stage followed by a playoff finale.

Where can fans watch Season 2 of Pro Panja League?

Matches will be broadcasted and streamed on multiple platforms to reach national and international audiences. Sony Sports 3 and DD Sports will broadcast the event while FanCode will be live streaming it. Meanwhile, SportVot will be live streaming the event for international fans.
