Chennai clinches top spot at Tamil Nadu State Arm Wrestling Championship 2024

More than 250 Armwrestlers took part in the tournament.
Chennai district emerged as winners in the recently concluded Tamil Nadu State Arm Wrestling Championship 2024, being held at SRM University, Chennai. Tiruchirappalli District finished as runners-up in the Championship.
The bouts took place in six categories – 55kg, 60kg, 70kg, 80kg, 90kg and 90+kg. In the Men’s Junior category (left-hand), S. Velukumaran from Salem district clinched first position in 50kg. In 55kg category, M. D. Suhail Ghias came in at first, while L. Kamalesh came in at second. In the 60kg category, Ashwin Sairam stood first and Sashanth Prasadh came in at second.
In the Men’s Junior category (right-hand), S. Velukumarn stood first in the 50kg category, while Arul Karthick came in at second. In the 55kg category, M. D. Suhail Ghias stood first and Aarwin Suresh stood second. In the 65kg category, M. Vediyappan secured first position, while K. Seshaharri stood second.
Meanwhile, in the Women’s Youth (left-hand) category, B. Hema Gandhi secured first position in the 50kg category, while D. Kalaiselvi stood first in 55kg category. In the Women’s Youth (right-hand) category, Jananee Pradeep and Pavithra came first and second in the 50kg category. Saranya Purushothaman, Janani Priya and S.G. Sharon secured first, second and third in the 55kg category.

Ms. Preeti Jhangiani, President of the People’s Armwrestling Federation India (PAFI) talked about the success of the event. They said, “The experience was just amazing. The kind of feedback we have gotten is just fantastic and it’s great to see so much of love being shown to the sport of arm wrestling. The competitors gave their everything to put on a great show for the audience and the fans. We have an exciting few projects in the pipeline which we will announce shortly.”
