Mohammedan Sporting Club were stunned 1-0 by Aryan Club in their second 2018/19 Calcutta Premier Division ‘A’ encounter at Barasat Stadium on Wednesday.
Although the Black Panthers went into the match as hot favourites but it was Aryan who stunned them thanks to a 37th-minute goal by Ejiogu Chinedu Emmanuel.
Going into the match, Mohammedan SC Head Coach Sudip Sarkar made one change from their previous match against FCI by handing Satyam Sharma his first start of the season replacing Laltu Hembram.
The game started at a furious pace with Mohammedan SC‚ as expected‚ pressing high to nullify Aryan’s effort to rapidly circulate the ball. It was a fascinating tactical battle although‚ at times‚ a little predictable.
Reluctantly there was a lot of possession turn over and not enough in the way of scoring chances.
The first real opportunity came after 17 minutes when Aryan goalkeeper Shouvik Santra made a save from Princewill Emeka‚ who had done well to turn the defense and put himself into a shooting position. But the Nigerian forward failed to get any real power behind his shot.

On the half hour mark‚ Princewill hit a wild effort from a tight angle well off target and eight minutes later winger Jewel Raja rose unchallenged to head a corner narrowly wide.
While Mohammedan SC pressed high up, opponents Aryan managed to take the lead against the run of the play at the other end. Nigerian striker Emmanuel capitalized on a defensive error to beat Black Panthers custodian Priyant Singh from close range in the 37th minute.
Having conceded, Mohammedan SC began attacking with intensity through Princewill, Dipendu Dowary and Prosenjit Chakraborty but rivals Aryan managed to hold on defending deep as the first half ended 1-0.
Mohammedan SC continued to dictate matters at the start of the second-half with substitute Mohammad Amirul shooting narrowly wide of the target five minutes into the session.
Aryan, though, were not to be outdone and came close to scoring in the 54th minute when Kunal Ghosh broke through on goal, but he was superbly denied in a one-on-one with Priyant.

Towards the end, Mohammedan SC showed more endeavour in attack but they were unable to breach a Aryan defense expertly marshalled by Seydou Mady and Raju Koley as Aryan Club held on to record a historical victory.
