The Red and Gold's new acquisition played for them four seasons ago before moving to their cross-town rivals for a short stint.

East Bengal have decided to bid adieu to their Brazilian striker Charles De Souza due to some poor performances and just being able to find the back of the net only once in the six games he has played so far.

Even coach Khalid Jamil who signed the Brazilian striker at his own choice cannot defend his stay in front of club officials. East Bengal de-facto secretary Debabrata Sarkar has already flown to Goa where East Bengal will next play Churchill Brothers on Monday and Dudu Omagbemi’s name has been finalised after a series of discussions with Jamil.

Dudu was part of the Red and Gold outfit four years ago partnering his Nigerian teammate Ranti Martins upfront where he scored nine goals with five assists in 18 I-league games. Dudu then joined arch-rivals Mohun Bagan for the Calcutta Football League in 2015 and was the highest scorer for the Mariners finding the back of the net six times in seven games before playing for FC Goa and Chennaiyin FC in  Indian Super League in consecutive seasons with a series of good performances.

It must be pointed out that De Souza’s dismissal was not a sudden call by the officials as they have been monitoring his performances for a while now and a lot of time was given for him to justify his place in the playing XI but the Brazilian failed to do so. The script was clear for Charles when Joby Justin was given the nod ahead of him in the starting XI against Indian Arrows with Willis Plaza being injured.

Now it is to be seen how the selection of Dudu works for Jamil and the team as the Nigerian had last played in November for FC Haka in Finland.
