Contenders: FIFA Puskas Best Goal of the Year
The winning goal chosen from across the UEFA Champions League and the FIFA World Cup will be revealed at the awards night on 24th September.
It is time, it is time for the revelation of the shortlisted goals, that were exceptional, for much famed Puskas award. These goals are exceptional, they are outrageously out-of-our-imagination, art pieces we score in gaming consoles day-in-day-out but never on the pitch. And they have done it.
A bicycle kick, scissor kick, trivela, scorpion kick, free-kick, UEFA Champions League goal of the year and FIFA World Cup 2018 goal of the competition, you name it, the shortlist have it.
Contenders
UEFA Champions League Goal of the season 2017-18
Carvajal picks it up, looks to clip in the middle and Ronaldoooo.....! Those were the emotions from the commentators in the semi-final first leg of the Champions League where Cristiano Ronaldo stuck home an exquisite, well-timed bicycle kick.
And now he is playing for Juventus!!
The amusement of the goal was not just the execution and the finish but how the fans of Juventus took it. There were rounds of applause to which Ronaldo gave a sweet gesture to Old Lady fans.
FIFA World Cup 2018 Goal of the Tournament
Benjamin Pavard witnessed the Euro 2016 through Fan parks in France and represented France at the World Cup in 2018. Wait, the story gets better, he won the coveted trophy and whilst doing it, he scored an unthinkable goal.
A dream come true
The goal went on to become the best goal of the tournament out of 18 serious contenders. The goal came at a crucial moment of France's round of 16 game against Argentina. Pavard's goal staged a come-back.
Gareth Bale
When Cristiano Ronaldo went missing in the final of the UCL 2017-18, Gareth Bale stood up to take matters in his own hands. He scored in the 64th minute, taking the lead against Liverpool.
He shut his haters in style
Though he lost to his former team-mate Ronaldo for having scored the best goal of UCL last season but he is still in contention for this Puskas award.
Denis Cheryshev
The former Real Madrid player opened the scoring the quarterfinal game between the hosts Russia and the Runner-ups Croatia in a quite unorthodox manner. Playing as a winger on the left flank, he dropped down in the midfield to receive the ball, initiated a 1-to-1 pass, drifted in the centre, received it and took a shoot with his week foot.
He shouldn't have left Real Madrid
Russia were knocked out owing to the penalty shoot-outs but Russians did cherish a goal from their own star player.
Ricardo Quaresma
There is one trick shot around which Ricardo Quaresma has built his legacy around - The Trivela. Known as the perfectionist to excel the trivela shots, he provided the football fans with a gem of his prized possessions in a group game for Portugal against Iran.
Trivela and Quaresma go hand in hand
The shoot involves the player to produce an out swinging ball, shot from the outside of boot in order to curl it in the post around the keeper, well watch it to see the magic.
Riley Mcgree
The most difficult goals to score are through the scorpion kicks and they are always a cherry to witness. Playing the top-most league of Australia, the 19-year-old produced a gem at this tender age.
He really is a serious contender to win it.
Giorgian De Arrascaeta
Uruguayan international and playing in the Brazilian club fi Cruzeiro, Giorgian scored a scissor kick goal flying through the middle of the box, netting in the left far corner of the goal.

Lazaros Christodoulopoulos
Taking a 30-yard free kick is tough, what is tougher? Curling the ball away from the keeper and to score the goal on the away post. AEK's #7 scored this equaliser against Olympiakos and stunned the fans, quite frantically.
Hey David Beckham, is it you?
Mohamed Salah
The Egyptian was on song, he was in the form of his life during last season. Well, he scored a lot of fantastic goals but one which was exceptional was the one against Everton at home.
It is a daily job for him now
Playing in a snowy night, he tucked in from the right and scored from a very tight angel. Many would argue that his goal against AS Roma in the semi-final was better but the angle here is way too narrow.
Lionel Messi
Only a few players on the planet can boast of a first touch at par with one of the greatest in this sport's history. His outing against Nigeria was extraordinary. He handled the ball with an exquisite touch from the outer of his thigh, dribbled through before unleashing the shot.
