The Mariners recently also appointed their senior team head coach, Jose Antonio Vicuna who is set to take rein of the club soon. Similarly, Khogen Singh will join the Mariners soon and work with the young talented players from the academy.

The Manipuri tactician has always shown his trust in young players over the years and that ideology of his bore fruit when Minerva Punjab won the I-League back in 2017/18 season with most of their homegrown players. His experience of working with youngsters and also with top professional players will definitely allow him to impart his knowledge and guidance to the players of the SAIL Academy.

Former India international Jo Paul Ancheri did put in his heart and soul in the academy during his tenure and now he will hand over the baton to Khogen Singh for further development.

Speaking to Goal, the Manipuri tactician revealed his future plans with the academy. "I have conducted a preliminary trial in Manipur and will hold the final trial in Durgapur. I am set to travel around the last week of May, but the exact date has not yet been confirmed. I want to start from the basics with a proper structure and my aim is to take this academy to the levels of TFA (Tata Football Academy) and other elite academies in India."

Khogen Singh is generally a man of silent demeanour, takes this as his first major assignment after inspiring Minerva Punjab to their maiden I-League title in the 2017/18 season. Singh will have a lot of things to improve on from this season, as the Mohun Bagan U-18 side lost against his former team in the quarterfinals of the Hero Elite Cup 2018/19. He will also look to set up his team for the upcoming prestigious IFA Shield where the Mariners lost to fierce rivals East Bengal on penalties last season.
