Indian TOTW 13: Some regulars do encore as more unsung heroes make their mark
Experienced warhorse Gouramangi Singh gets his due for some solid performances with I-League newcomers NEROCA.
With another gameweek passing by in the Indian footballing scenario, India witnessed another grand set of fixtures along with some controversial moments as well. The Indian Super League (ISL) caused some sensationalizing performances as Bengaluru FC defeated high flying FC Goa to maintain their course of action towards the league title. On the other hand, human errors once again made the I-League relevant again as Kolkata giants Mohun Bagan drew against Chennai City FC. With so many games played this week, which Indian players made the cut? Let’s take a look.
Goalkeeper: Subrata Paul (Jamshedpur FC)
The veteran goalkeeper have been in red-hot form since the beginning of the season. His impressive performance continued in Jamshedpur’s fixture against NorthEast United FC where he stood tall in front of the goal, making several saves to contribute to the win against the Highlanders.

Right back: Rahul Bheke (Bengaluru FC)
The 27-year-old full-back was one of the standout performers in the Bengaluru FC defence against the Blues’ game against FC Goa. Bheke’s display allowed the Karnataka side to deny any opportunity on the right side of the pitch. His forward runs also helped Bengaluru to create more opportunities, nullifying the opposition defence to bits in the process.
Centre Back: Gouramangi Singh (NEROCA FC)
The veteran defender have been one of the few pillars of league newcomers NEROCA FC this season. The 32-year-old featured in two games last week for his side, one against Gokulam Kerala FC and the latter against defending champions Aizawl FC. Starting both the matches, Singh helped NEROCA register not conceding a single goal in the two fixtures.
Centre Back: Gurtej Singh (FC Pune City)
One of the most important pieces of the puzzle in Ranko Popovic’s strategies this season, Gurtej delivered an almost flawless performance against Mumbai City FC. In the one on one situations, Singh’s intelligent read of the game and that of the forwards helped Pune recover from tricky situations which got a place for him in the team of the week.

Left Back: Munmun Lugun (Delhi Dynamos FC)
The standout defender in Delhi Dynamos’ fixture against Chennaiyin FC. Although the game ended as a draw, Lugun put up a brilliant performance where he found a balance between attacking and defending which helped his side to close on the left side of the pitch. The 24-year-old defender linked up with Lallianzuala Chhangte well and was a wall against Chennaiyin attacks from the flanks.
Defensive Midfielder: Adil Khan (FC Pune City)

One of the most consistent performers for FC Pune City this season, Khan’s performance against NorthEast United. Shielding the Stallions’ backline, Khan successfully broke down opposition play several times as well as intercepted and regained possession. His presence in the centre of the pitch provided a certain level of calmness in Pune’s supply line and was the best Indian player on the pitch in the evening.
Right midfielder: Jerry Mawihmingthanga (Jamshedpur FC)
The 20-year-old sensation had a particularly good time in Jamshedpur FC’s game against NorthEast United FC. Jerry kept Jamshedpur’s right side active and operating against the Highlanders. His pace allowed the Men of Steel to launch sudden counter-attacks. However, plying his trade in a defensive side – Jerry’s considerate defensive performance also caught the eyes of the spectators.
Centre Midfielder: Lenny Rodrigues (Bengaluru FC)
One of the better Indian players against FC Goa last week. One of the most underrated players on the field, Rodrigues’ spell against the Gaurs helped the Blues to break off attacks in its initial stage. His marking skills also came in handy against the likes of Lanzarote and co as the midfielder dropped deep every time the Goa striker posed a threat to the defence.
Centre Midfielder Raynier Fernandes (Mohun Bagan)
The Mohun Bagan youngster had a particularly good day at the office as he contributed massively to his side draw against Chennai City. His presence in the centre of the pitch allowed Mohun Bagan to deal with the opposition attacks well, denying Chennai City any gaps in the midfield.
Left Midfielder: Jackichand Singh (Kerala Blasters FC)
The Kerala Blasters wide player caught the eyes of many with his performance against ATK. One of the most hardworking players on the pitch, Singh created three chances against the defending champions but unfortunately could not get into the assists chart. However, his numerous crosses kept the ATK defenders wary of him throughout the game, which eventually, helped the Southerners to get a point from the game.

The Arrows’ young striker was the most vital piece of the puzzle for the AIFF developmental side’s win over Churchill Brothers. In their fixture against the Red Machines, the Colts were trailing the entire game but Sarkar rose up to the occasion to score two injury time goals and handing his side three points. Although the Indian U-17 international also missed on few chances during the game but his performance in the extra time made him the most prolific striker of the recently concluded I-League game week.
