The win also seals promotion to the top flight for the Imphal-based club

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) lauded Manipuri club TRAU FC for winning the Hero 2nd Division League 2018-19, and qualifying to the next edition of Hero I-League.

They are the second club, after NEROCA FC, from Manipur state to have qualified for the Hero I-League from the second tier.  NEROCA FC gained promotion to the top-tier after winning the second division in the 2016-17 season and have since been a consistent performer.

TRAU FC, who have been brilliant throughout the league, defeated Ozone FC 2-1 at the Khuman Lampak Stadium in Imphal today (May 19, 2019) to clinch the championship with one match left to be played.

The club has amassed 15 points from 5 matches so far and already have a five-point lead over second-placed Chhinga Veng FC, who have 10 points having played an equal number of matches.

TRAU FC will be hoping in to follow the footsteps of Real Kashmir, I-League second division winners in the 2017-18 season, and NEROCA FC, who have gone on to perform considerably well in the I-League.

They improved their performance from the previous season where they finished fourth to clinch the title and earn the coveted promotion to the HERO I-League.
