This will be the country's second age group FIFA World Cup in a span of three years.

India will host the U17 Women's World Cup next year after FIFA president Gianni Infantino confirmed the news on Friday.

The event is set to take place on Asian shores next year as India managed to beat South Korea to win the hosting rights for what will be the seventh edition of the biennial tournament. The decision to award India with the hosting rights came up during a FIFA council meeting in Miami. The latest FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup ended in Uruguay last year with Spain emerging champions for the first time beating Mexico in the final.

However, Indian Women's team failed to qualify for the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Uruguay after the Blue Tigresses finished third in the 2017 U-16 Asian Championship qualification, below Group B leaders South Korea and the Philippines. North Korea defeated South Korea in the finals of the U-16 AFC Championship, whereas Japan ended up being third defeating China. All the top three teams qualified for the showpiece event in Uruguay in 2018.

Japan and North Korea from AFC displayed a good account of themselves as they made their way till the quarterfinals before losing to New Zealand and Spain respectively, both the matches were decided on penalties.

This will be India's second FIFA event after the massive success of hosting the 2017 FIFA U17 Men's World Cup. Since then the All India Football Federation (AIFF) have shown interest in bidding for these FIFA age group events to promote the sport in the county. It will be a huge opportunity for the growth of Indian football as a whole whereas the Indian U-17 Women's football team will hope that they can grab this golden opportunity with both hands and make an impact in the footballing map.

It will be interesting to see how India and her football fans react to another massive event next year. Hopes are high after the success and jubilation of the U17 Men's World Cup back in 2017 as England emerged winners over Spain in the finals at the Salt Lake Stadium.
