The game lived up to its billing but unfortunately, it was marred by poor refereeing.
Bengaluru FC defeated Kerala Blasters in the much-anticipated South Indian Derby at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, in Kochi. However, this game, like some of the previous ISL matches, was marred by dreadful decisions made by the referee.
Nevertheless, Bengaluru had the upper hand and went back home with three points. The Blasters were unlucky not to have Bengluru's first goal ruled out, where Sunil Chhetri was offside.
The visitors' defence, Albert Serran, in particular, put up a commendable show at the back against Kerala. He played a pivotal role in preventing the Kerala attackers from scoring goals. Commenting on their performance the former Espanyol defender said, "We are very happy. We started well, we've to continue the line. This is very good for a team to gain confidence. Now, we have the break to enjoy and to get the energy for other parts of the season."
Serran and Kerala's CK Vineeth went head-to-head after the pair tumbled down on the pitch and the situation would have worsened had the referee not intervened. When asked what had gone through his mind when he was up against Vineeth the 34-year-old responded, "It has been a difficult game. I think we played a very good game. We know that these things happen. This team is so difficult to beat here. On the pitch, we showed that we were training very good."
Serran also praised Kerala Blasters fans. He said, "They [Kerala Blasters fans] are amazing. It is so exciting to come here and see all of them. They are enjoying the game."

Meanwhile, Kerala Blasters' defender Nemanja Lakic-Pesic, who played for the hosts against Bengaluru said it was disappointing and they didn't deserve this result. The lanky defender asserted, "Surely, it is disappointing because I didn't think we deserved to lose. We played good even though we were a little tired before the the game, because we had 2 games in 7 days.
[KH_RELATED_NEWS title="Related News"][/KH_RELATED_NEWS]"Still, I think the first goal was offside. I'm sure. We saw the video. The second goal, unfortunately, it is an own-goal. What can I say? We really are disappointed. We are looking forward to the next game to win.", he added.
Kerala Blasters fans came in numbers, as usual, to cheer for the home side and the fans, for the passion they showed during the game, deserved to go home with a victory. When asked about that Pesic said," We are sorry [to the fans] that we cannot win at home. We are doing our best. I guarantee every player are doing their best. There are some problems with goals that we conceded. Like today from offside. That's it."
