Indian Player Ratings: Jackichand Singh, Brandon Fernandes make headlines as Goa crush Mumbai

The Islanders have now conceded twelve goals against the Gaurs this season.

Mumbai City FC were once again humiliated by FC Goa, losing 1-5 in the home leg of the second semi-final of the Indian Super League. Mumbai had to pay for their lack of defensive alertness and hence conceded five goals against Goa for the second time this season. Rafael Bastos opened the scoring for the Islanders, before Jackichand Singh scored from a rebound to level things up for the travelling side.

It was then one-way traffic with Mourtada Fall scoring twice as well as Brandon Fernandes and Ferran Corominas both registering their names on the score sheet once each. The game leaves Mumbai with very little hope of a comeback, with the Islanders now needing to score at least four times without reply in Goa.

Mumbai City FC

Subhasish Bose - 4.0

Subhasish was never in the game. Goa scored twice through corners and not once could Subhasish mark his man well. The Indian international was also non-functional while going forward, with a weak shot from a long distance being his only noticeable involvement in attack. It wasn't a performance of his standard and the left-back needs to improve.

Raynier Fernandes - 5.5

Raynier Fernandes was not clinical, although he had a better game than the previous ones, showing signs of improvement. He almost setup Rafael Bastos for a goal with an inch-perfect pass from between the Gaurs' defence. Raynier started dropping his level of urgency in the second half, forcing his tactician to bring on Pranjal Bhumij, someone who could be more direct.

Souvik Chakrabarti - 4.0

Mumbai's full-backs never attack and Souvik seems to be keen to keep it that way. His overlapping runs were obsolete and he was constantly being ignored by his teammates when he tried to be a helping hand in attack. Also, not to mention that Brandon and Jackichand toyed with him throughout the game, especially for the fifth goal of the away side.

Joyner Lourenco - 5.0

Joyner came back from an injury only to see his side concede five to Goa for the second time this season. He didn't get noticed, almost going anonymous throughout the game. The likes of Corominas and Lenny Rodrigues were allowed to take shots from between the midfield and defence line of Mumbai without any pressure from the former Bengaluru FC man.

Amrinder Singh - 5.0

Amrinder Singh conceded goals that he could have saved or not conceded with a better or more alert line of defence. The two goals scored from corners were the ones Amrinder had no say in and as for the others, he could have done better.

Especially, for the Jackichand and Brandon Fernandes goals, the experienced goalkeeper would be kicking himself for conceding them. However, the shot-stopper did save some good shots. But overall, he was as poor as his teammates.

Sehnaj Singh - 4.0

A destroyer of no use to his defence, Sehnaj was only seen when he tripped someone down out of frustration. The midfielder had no involvement in the build-up play and his passing wasn't of any good to his side. His team needed him the most, but he wasn't there to help. The likes of Lenny and Edu Bedia were allowed the freedom to have complete control over the game and the ball.

Substitutions

Pranjal Bhumij - 5.5

Pranjal brought directness to his side's play, but wasn't decisive in most of the moments. The youngster also failed to impact the team's performance overall, as they failed to see the ball even more after his arrival. The youngster did come close to scoring, but saw his shot go wide.

FC Goa

Naveen Kumar - 6.5

Naveen had a mixed game and it could well be explained by the two most distinct moments of his involvement. While at one time he pulled out a David de Gea-esque save to deny Rafael Bastos from close range, on the other occasion he was seen losing the ball from his hands to Modou Sougou, allowing him to put it in the back of the net.

Seriton Fernandes - 7.0

How would one rate a Marcelo on a Champions League title-decider night? Seriton was literally the Marcelo of the Gaurs - exceptional in attack and shambolic in defence. However, the Goans would like to see only the positives of their right-back.

The defender was really dangerous going forward, cutting in and overshadowing even Jackichand on the right wing, but all of it came at the cost of his defensive duties. The only goal Mumbai scored turned out to be a testament of the same.

Mandar Rao Dessai - 7.0

Mandar Rao had trouble dealing with the Congolese international Arnold Issoko and allowed him to put in the cross that was finished well by Bastos. The forward restricted the involvement of Mandar in attack for the Gaurs. The left-back was well-positioned throughout the game and had to be given the kind of opponents he had to face on the right wing of Mumbai.

Brandon Fernandes - 8.5

Brandon ran the show for the travelling side, scoring once and providing an assist for one of his teammates' goals. The winger was at his creative best and enjoyed the freedom given by his coach Sergio Lobera, often switching flanks with Jackichand. Brandon's final balls and crosses are what every Indian football fan wishes to see in the national team's gameplay.

Jackichand Singh - 8.0

What a revelation Jackichand has been this season! From being sub-par or even poor for Kerala Blasters to leading the assault of the Gaurs, he has played his way back into national team contention. The former Kerala Blasters man was at his best in the first leg, scoring his side's opener. The winger also provided the assist for his side's talismanic striker Corrominas.

Lenny Rodrigues - 7.5

Lenny combined well with Ahmed Jahouh to contain the Mumbai midfield and keep them out of play. The former Bengaluru man was also at his best while distributing the ball, with a passing accuracy of 89%. The experience of the veteran Lenny kept the likes of Raynier and Sehnaj chasing the ball throughout the game.
