Indira Gandhi Academy trounce India Rush Soccer Club as ESU edge Rising Student's Club

Goals from Pradeepa Sekar and R. Sandhiya earned crucial three points for Indira Gandhi Academy.

Indira Gandhi Academy SE notched up a 2-1 win over India Rush Soccer Club in a Hero Indian Women’s League fixture at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong today Wednesday, March 28, 2018.

Forward Pradeepa opened the scoring in the 15th minute for IGASE with Dalima equalising for Rush in the 28th before Sandhiya scored the winner in the 74th minute of the game. The win took Indira Gandhi to 3 points from 2 matches.

The teams began on an even footing with both teams matching each other in the midfield. Sandhiya had the first real chance but her free-kick went straight to keeper Aditi Chauhan. Nisha too had the same result on the other side as her shot was grabbed by Crystal. Rush also had a penalty claim in the 13th minute but the referee waved it away.

The opening goal came when Pradeepa unleashed a left footer in the 15th minute. Her shot beat Aditi on her left and went into the left bottom corner to give Indira Gandhi Academy the lead. The goal seemed to revitalise Rush as they punched away at the IGASE goal.

A couple of free-kicks were earned as the trio of Dalima-Grace-Jyoti tried to stitch together an attack. The equaliser did arrive and how. Dalima Chibber took on the goalie from 40 yards out with her effort finding the back of the net.

The goal lit up the match as the teams attacked and counter-attacked but were let down each time with indecisiveness in the final third. A golden chance to take the lead did arrive at the 45th minute mark when Sumithra layed it off to Sandhiya but with only the goalkeeper to beat she shot it wide.

Indira Gandhi ASE dominated the proceedings after the break as India Rush found it difficult to get the ball into the other half. Aditi Chauhan was also forced into action as she made two vital saves in the 60th an

The first one was a blinder where she denied Sumithra from point blank range while in the next one she denied Amalarasi by rushing out to cut the angle. IGASE continued the onslaught by earning a couple of corners but the goal didn’t arrive.

Then a forward pass from the back split open the Rush defence as Sandhiya made the run forward to latch on to the ball. She rounded up the keeper and then placed the ball into the empty net to score the eventual winner.

The final few minutes saw India Rush trying to make inroads into the Indira box but they were stonewalled in their efforts by the resolute defenders of the Pondicherry side.

India Rush Soccer Club will next play Eastern Sporting Union on March 31 while Indira Gandhi ASE will take on Gokulam Kerala FC on the same day.

Defending champions Eastern Sporting Union clinched their second consecutive win in the Hero Indian Women’s League 2017-18 when they edged out last year’s finalists Rising Student’s Club 1-0 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here in Shillong on Wednesday (March 28, 2018)

Captain Irom Prameshwori scored the solitary goal of the match after lobbing it over the keeper’s head in the 3rd minute. With this win Eastern sit pretty on top with 6 points from their 2 matches.

Eastern Sporting Union attacked from the word go as the Prameshwori and Kamala Devi combined well in the opening couple of minutes. It yielded a goal straightaway when Prameshwori lobbed it over the keeper Tikina’s head who was left stranded.

Defender Sweety found Roja inside the box in the 6th minute but the striker was unable to control the ball. Kamala too unleashed a shot of her own in the 13th but it hit the side-netting only.

Slowly but surely Rising made a comeback as Sanju and Lochana combined well together. Sanju took aim in the 23rd but her shot missed narrowly. Sweety too attempted to score at the other end but her shot was easily collected by Tikina.

Then in the 28th minute Anju Tamang squandered a sitter. She found herself in the clear with only Panthoi to beat but a rush of blood saw her making a hash of it as she bundled her shot over the bar.

Prameshwori and Kamala both came close to doubling the lead but they were unable to put it on target. The final chance of the half went to Lochana who just needed to place it but her shot went way over the bar as the teams headed into the break.

Rising came out strongly in the second half as Sanju was a livewire down the right hand side of the park. The trio of Sanju, Lochana and Anju put serious pressure on the Eastern backline but player of the match Manisa Panna and Umapati Devi were on hand to keep them at bay.

Sanju had a couple of chances to shoot but she wasted both of them while Prameshwori saw her shot curl past the far post. Sanju who was by far the most impressive of all Rising players had another chance in the 69th but her left footer missed by a whisker.

It just wasn’t Rising’s day as Anju Tamang failed on her chance at redemption in the 80th before Kamala shot straight at Tikina in the 81st.

Rising threw in a final roll of the dice when Ngoubi rushed down the flank in the 90th minute but her cross went past the goal mouth as no Rising player was able to make the connection.

Eastern Sporting Union will face India Rush SC in their next encounter on March 31 while Rising Student’s Club will take on KRYHPSA on the same day.
