Sunil Chhetri becomes most capped India international, eclipses Bhaichung Bhutia

Another match, another milestone! Sunil Chhetri just seems to be breaking records in Indian football! It was only in January 2019, when the India skipper overtook Lionel Messi in the list of active international goalscorers, with his two goals against Thailand (in a 1-4 win) in the AFC Asian Cup. The Padma Shri awardee is now only behind Cristiano Ronaldo in that list. The Portuguese has 85 goals, while our skipper has 68, with the Argentine at 65.

Now, the Bengaluru FC skipper has broken none other than Bhaichung Bhutia's record for the most India caps. The duo were tied at 107 appearances for the Blue Tigers, with Chhetri breaking it after his inclusion in the lineup against Curacao in the King's Cup earlier today.

Although, the team lost the clash to Curacao (1-3), Chhetri scored via a penalty in his record-breaking outing for India.

Ahead of the King's Cup, the Arjuna awardee had said, "It is an honour and privilege. I generally don't think about it, but when I listen to it, its unbelievable, because it is such a huge country with a huge history."
