The ex-United midfielder has been vocal in his criticism of the Portuguese tactician and the Frenchman since their arrival in 2016.

In case you have been living in a cave, all hell has broken loose at Old Trafford following the second week of action in the Premier League. Manchester United displayed an abysmal performance in a 3-2 defeat away to Brighton. Post the 90 minutes, United legend and football pundit Paul Scholes expressed some stern views on midfielder Paul Pogba, which did not go down well with his agent Mino Raiola and he took to Twitter to give Scholes a hard-hitting reply.

Scholes have been in the news since the return of Pogba to United in 2016, having been vocal on the issues surrounding the midfielder and the poor display of football from the recent World Cup winner.

Last week, Scholes said: "What we do know is that Paul needs to perform more often than he is doing. We all know the talent he’s got; great strength, great ability, an athlete. But, he’s only doing it once every three or four games. If you’re going to challenge for a title I just don’t think that can happen."

After the Brighton debacle he added, "There’s a lack of leaders in the team, that’s why we thought Paul Pogba might be the ideal candidate to be that leader, but he wasn’t there tonight. He had another really poor game. He’s so inconsistent."

In response, manager Jose Mourinho defended his captain saying, "The only thing Paul Scholes does is to criticise. Which is a different thing, but not every one of us has to be phenomenal like he was as a player, he was a phenomenal player, that doesn't all mean we all have to be phenomenal."

"Paul [Pogba] tries to do his best all the time and sometimes he plays very well, sometimes he plays well, sometimes he doesn't play so well, it's not Paul's fault that he made much more money than Paul Scholes, it's not Paul Pogba's fault, it's just the way football is."

We lost, we did not deserve to win- Paul Pogba

Just when it seemed that the dust had settled, Pogba's agent Raiola added fuel to the fire.

Shots were fired towards Paul Scholes

The Italian super-agent was not done, as he shot off another tweet asking Scholes to become Manchester United's first sporting director and to sell Pogba. He then sarcastically remarked that it would be hard for him to find a new club for the midfielder.

It is also reported that Raiola offered Pogba to Manchester City earlier this year

Raiola is known for his knack for wealthy transfers and handling players with unique and rigid demands. Manchester United have done business with him for the purchase of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Romelu Lukaku and Pogba. During Sir Alex Ferguson's time, United avoided any links with him, but Jose Mourinho did not share the same view.

It will be interesting to see how the saga pans out over the course of the season and with Barcelona keeping an eye on the French maestro, it would not come as a surprise if Pogba was to leave United in the winter or at least next summer transfer window.
