Indian starlet Dheeraj Singh begins trial with Motherwell FC in Scotland

The young shot-topper attracted interest many European clubs following his performance in the FIFA U-17 World Cup.

Indian U-19 National Football Team and former Indian Arrows goalkeeper Dheeraj Singh Moirangthem has started his trial with Scottish side Motherwell FC on Thursday. The Manipuri custodian left for Scotland earlier this week after a training stint with Indian Super League outfit Kerala Blasters. On Thursday evening, the Scottish Premiership club uploaded a video featuring the youngster in training at Motherwell’s training with the first team on their Facebook page.

India U-17’s standout performer in the FIFA U-17 World Cup, Dheeraj came on the radar of several clubs worldwide, some of them being from the Premier League and the Major League Soccer.

News broke shortly after the tournament that Dheeraj was being targeted by The Steelmen for their youth side. Although. Singh appeared under the bars for the AIFF's development side Indian Arrows in the I-League for a short while, the 17-year-old decided to see his contract out with and join the Scottish Premiership side in February. His trial with Motherwell FC is expected to last for three weeks.

The recent video which was uploaded on Dheeraj Singh Moirangthem’s Facebook page last night showed the youngster training in the Motherwell FC training complex Ravenscraig. The club previously confirmed the same on their Facebook page and added that he joined up with the team as soon as he arrived.

If he passes the trial, Singh is expected to see competition from reserves goalkeeper Peter Morrison. At any rate, Dheeraj will have to wait until July this year, when he turns 18 to be be eligible for an international transfer.
