Asian Games 2022: List of Indian athletes to have secured qualification
These players will represent the country at the continental meet.
The Asian Games 2022 is set to be held from 23 September 2023 to October 8, 2023 in Hangzhou, China. The 19th Asian Games will feature 40 sports with top players set to participate in the 15-day-long quadrennial event. India were the host of the inaugural edition of the Asian Games and has hosted the continental games twice. In the last edition, India sent a strong contingent of 570 players across 36 sports.
In this article, let us look at the teams/players that have already secured qualification for the Asian Games 2022.
Hockey
The winner will automatically progress to the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. The Indian men’s team finished third whereas the women’s team finished second in the last edition of the Asian Games in 2018. Japan claimed the gold medal in both the men’s and women’s events in Jakarta.

Boxing
Women’s Boxing
The women's boxers won four gold medals at the recently concluded IBA World Women’s Boxing Championships. Nitu Ghanghas won the gold medal in the 48kg weight category but will not make it to the Asian Games as Nikhat Zareen has already booked her spot in the 51kg category. Nitu will be on standby in case of any injury concerns before the Asian Games 2022.

Golf
The selection trials for golf were held last year and it remains to be seen if the trials will be held once again this year as well. Seven golfers were selected for the Asian Games 2022 based on their rankings and the performance of the trial. Anirban Lahiri and Aditi Ashok will be leading the men’s and women’s contingents respectively.

Softball
The Indian women’s softball team will be making their debut at the Asian Games 2022. India and Singapore were awarded wildcard entry in the continental event. Softball made its debut in the 1990 edition of the Asian Games held in Beijing, China.

The trials for the 2022 Asian Games were held in February 2023 and star archer Deepika Kumari failed to make the cut. Olympian Atanu Das made the cut in the men’s recurve event alongside experienced Tarundeep Rai.

AFI has set a designated limit for each event across track and field events. Ram Baboo, and Harmilan Bains to name a few have made the cut for the Asian Games 2022 but the official list will be announced after the conclusion of the Federation Cup and Inter State Athletics Meet.
