The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) released the final list of the qualified athletes from India who will be representing the country at the upcoming Hangzhou Asian Games, on Friday. The contingent is set to feature 634 athletes in the squad a rise of 62 from the 2018 edition; marking this the largest squad for the Asiad’s.
Prior to the confirmed list, close to 850 athletes were advised by the Indian Olympic Association (IOC) and respective Sports Federation for participation. From the subsequent list the Sports Ministry selected 634 athletes for the the 19th edition of the Asian Games which are going to be held in Hangzhou, China from August 23 to October 8.
Out of the 634 athletes – men (320) and women (314) constitute close to equal participation. India had sent 572 athletes in the previous edition of the Games and stood on the eighth position in the medals table. With a spike in the number of athletes, there is a possibility of players winning more medals and utimately make it to top 5 in medals tally.
