The inaugural edition took place with athletes from 11 countries participating.
The 19th Asian Games are scheduled to be held in Hangzhou, China, from September 23 to October 8, 2023. This sporting event is set to feature an impressive array of 40 sports and 406 events, with more than 10,000 athletes hailing from 45 countries representing the National Olympic Committees (NOC) affiliated with the Olympic Council of Asia.
Notably, in November 2021, it was decided that athletes from Oceania would receive invitations to participate in select events like wushu, roller skating, triathlon, and weightlifting. Meanwhile, North Korea also end their isolation from taking part in foreign meets by participating in the Asiad.
Throughout its history, the Asian Games have consistently drawn a substantial number of athletes, regularly exceeding 10,000 participants from diverse regions. A group of nations, including India, Japan, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and Thailand, has maintained a steadfast presence, participating in every edition of the Asian Games since 1951.
