Rohan Bopanna will be playing in his final Continental meet.

Tennis has always been a promising medal-winning sport for India at the Asian Games over the years. India has won a total of 32 medals comprising five gold, nine silver, and 17 bronze medals, and ranks 5th in the medals tally in tennis events at the Asian Games. Only Japan, South Korea, China, and Indonesia are ahead of India.

In the men's singles event, Somdev Devvarrman had one of the best results winning gold medal by defeating Dennis Istomin 6-1,6-2 at the Asian Games in 2010. Meanwhile, in the women's singles events, Sania Mirza came close to winning the gold but missed by a whisker where she was defeated by Zheng Jie in a competitive three-set final in 2006.

Meanwhile, the Indian men's doubles had the most success with pairs Rohan Bopanna/Leander Paes winning gold in the Asian Games in 2002 and 2006. Somdev Devvarman and Sanam Singh also left their mark in the doubles department winning the gold medal in 2010. In the last edition, Rohan Bopanna and Divij Sharan defeated Alexander Bublik/Denis Yevseyev6–3, 6–4 with a gold medal.

On the other hand, women's doubles pair over the years are yet to medal and would like to change that in the upcoming Asian Games 2023.

Rohan Bopanna and Ankita Raina to spearhead Indian contingent in Asian Games 2023

Veteran Rohan Bopanna will lead the men’s team contingent at the upcoming Hangzhou Asian Games. The 43-year-old Indian tennis ace entered the top 10 in the ATP rankings for doubles last month for the first time since June 2016 and has won two ATP titles this year. He became the oldest player to enter a grand slam finals in the US Open but eventually lost in a three setter to Rajeev Ram/Joe Salisbury.

Meanwhile, Ankita Raina is ranked 206th in the WTA rankings, 28 places above Karman Kaur Thandi. Ankita is India’s highest-ranked player in women’s doubles at world No. 149. The athlete from Gujarat made it to the third qualifying round in the US Open recently and qualified for WTA 250 tournament in Tokyo. After winning bronze in the previous edition, Ankita will be looking to go a step further.
