China vs India: Three Key Battles to decide Asian Games tie
These duels will influence the outcome of this Asian Games clash!
After a hiatus of just one week since their King’s Cup campaign, the Indian national team is back in action, as they brace themselves for the Asian Games.
India will take on China PR in their opening game of the competition, on the 19th of September. Despite the fans having a lot of expectations from the national team, they have been left disappointed after a second choice squad selection by Igor Stimac, due to the reluctance of clubs to send their players for international duty outside the FIFA window. However, a few last minute inclusions have been made to bolster the defensive third.
China have a pretty strong squad at their disposal, and are currently ranked 78th in the FIFA World rankings.
India will face a big test when they face their neighbours on Tuesday, and among all battles that might possibly come up on the pitch, here are some of the most interesting ones.
3. Sunil Chhetri vs Jiang Shenglong
Sunil Chhetri is one of the notable faces in the Indian squad for the Asian Games, and as always a mountain of expectations and hopes will be on the Indian skipper to take his team through such a crucial fixture. Sunil’s recent record for the national team has been flawless, and he will be a major force for India on the forefront.
On the other hand, Jiang Shenglong has also had a great stint with the national team in recent times, and has been impressive at the club level as well. Though significantly young and still inexperienced, Jiang has been able to build a strong reputation for himself, and there is little doubt that the 22-year-old will be crucial in trying to stop Sunil on Tuesday.
2. Bryce Miranda vs Gao Tianyi
Tuesday’s midfield battle between Bryce Miranda and Gao Tianyi is going to be another savoury battle that is surely going to catch all our eyes. As a technical player, Bryce loves to drop deep and contribute in the build-up. The player often takes a very central position to facilitate a smooth play.
Gao on the contrary, takes up a defensive role in the midfield, and makes a lot of movement in the wings as well.
The two players are almost certain to clash on the field, and it is difficult to predict who will come on top.
1. Narender Gahlot vs Fang Hao
India’s defence has to be at their very best against China, as even the smallest mistake by them can lead to a lot of trouble.
Chinese winger Fang Hao, who is amongst China’s most lethal attackers, will be a player to watch out for, and his battle with India’s defence will be interesting to spectate.
It is very much possible that Narender Gahlot might be given the task to hold the winger back, due to his incredible physicality and pace, and how the two players will clash is a question that can only be answered on the field this Tuesday.
